Personal Narrative: My First Time In High School
“Team on 3… 1, 2, 3… Team!!” As the whistle blew I lead the team towards the net to shake hands because the game was about to start. This was the time. This was the moment. Everyone cheering. I can't mess up. I just can't. The game has begun. And since we …show more content…
Only 2 tedious hours of school and I could go home and lay in my queen size bed with my body sized pillow because today was just not my day. As i walk into Mr. Schwantes class I see an egg, a cup filled with water, and toilet paper roll. I know right then and there we are doing a really fun activity. Mr. Schwantes was always a fun teacher. He was very helpful as well. I could always count on him to cheer me up. I take a seat and read the board and do what it says. “ Good morning boys and girls!!” Mr. Schwantes says as he walks in the room, “ We will be doing an experiment today. Please move all of your stuff to the back counter when you are done with your blog.” As i stand up to go put my folder and notebook on the back counter I start feeling a little light headed. What was wrong with me? My stomach aches and i'm really dizzy. After standing there for about 20 seconds i feel fine again. I place my items on the back counter and take my seat, I just couldn't get the fact that the big game was tonight and i didn't feel good out of my head. “Are you okay Kierra,” Mr. Schwantes asks, “You look a little

Throughout my years of high school I have always strived for the best grades that I could attain, and they didn’t come easy. There were plenty of distractions that had driven me off course. Whether it was long hours at practice, volunteering for my community, or having a part-time job, I couldn’t let these activities hinder my grades. This purpose had sprung in me, to not only strive in my extracurricular activities, but also my schoolwork. Balancing both school and additional activities wasn’t a simple task. This led me to many sleepless nights, in which I had to tutor myself on certain topics I was struggling on. This ranged from my hardest subject, to studying extra hours on my hardest class, and even simple topics that I needed extra work…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

The most challenging thing I've ever done in my life thus far was taking Spanish in my first two years of high school. Throughout my whole scholastic career, I never really had to try. I came to class, did the work, and then aced the tests. This history of nonexistent challenge was interrupted by my enrollment into foreign language. For some reason the ideas taught within the class never really resonated with me and for the first time ever I was no longer an “A student.” This took a huge hit to my pride but it made me want to apply myself like I've never done before.…

Starting high school was a terrifying idea to me. Different teachers, class times, lockers, drama! I remember that I always looked up to my older sister while she was in high school. She had tons of friends, played sports, participated in student government, and went out for the school play. I wanted to be just like her when I started high school. In middle school, I lined myself up for this, I played soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter. I helped out in the school plays, and I joined the student government. I had a group of great friends, and thought nothing bad was going to happen.…

High school is one of the biggest transitions in a person's early life. You go from being at the top in your school to the bottom. For me, it was very hard to adjust to this change. On my first day of high school, I walked into first period so nervous I thought I was going to get sick. This is much like what happened during my transition into middle school. On the first day at Mazzuchelli, right before the first class began, I threw up all over the floor of the classroom. I’m not a big fan of change. To make matters worse, the first week of high school was outrageously hot. The combination of the heat and my nerves made me sweat uncontrollably. At the time, I felt very self conscious of sweating during class. As bad as these first few days…

The words “all girls education” bring a different image to each person’s mind. Some see a girl being reprimanded by a rigid, elderly woman, while others imagine side glances in the hallway and snarky comments on wardrobe choices. However, my experience was entirely my own, and was defined by laughter filled classrooms. Just like any other school, my high school involved shared experiences that affected each student distinctly. One of these shared experiences is the dreaded time spent in the cramped hallway for sophomore lockers dubbed “Reject Row.” Each grade that passes through makes it their own and understands the surprising isolation and independence attached to these lockers.…

During my years of highschool I've struggled with many issues to become a successful member of society. Some ways I've been self reliant as a young adult is not listening to what people tell me I can or can't achieve something. For example, in the article “The Struggle for Human Rights” by Eleanor Roosevelt she says “We have put down here the rights that we consider basic for individual human beings the world over to have. Without them, we feel that the full development of individual personality is impossible” (Roosevelt 7). In one of my years of highschool I wanted to join the cheerleading team and realized I didn't care what people think and that I should do what makes me happy so that is exactly what I did. I didn't care what anyone…

My first semester of highschool was difficult, but it’s because of me that it’s been difficult. I’ve had trouble staying motivated to do almost anything at all, and when finding motivation my brain goes numb and I stop thinking completely, and by the time I realize this, it’s already late at night, I know that it sounds like an excuse, but why would I make an excuse when it’s already too late to do anything about my grades, why bother trying to make something up to get people off of my back instead of just coming clean and telling the truth? It’s because I am telling the truth. By the time my thought has returned I’m exhausted and shrug off my work, putting it off and letting it pile up, I can't do this any longer, I need to start being…

The first time my best friend of four years told me that she would not be returning for our final two years of high school, I never dreamt that my life would become dramatically different. At the end of my sophomore year my best friend, who I refer to by her last name, Jones, because we have the same first name, told me that she was going to take the California High School Proficiency Examination in hopes of not having to complete junior and senior year of high school, and consequently start community college the following year. She said that high school was simply not meant for her and that she wanted a more significant amount of freedom and independence. At the time I thought the idea was a distant dream of hers that would never become a reality however, I was quite mistaken. When sophomore year concluded, and it was time for Jones to take the test I was left feeling exceedingly conflicted about my secret, selfish desire for her to fail, merely so I could still have her all to myself.…

I failed. The first time in college I failed myself, I lost who I was and I didn’t really know how to get the boy I was back. It is easy to lose yourself when you’ve failed to figure out who you were in the first place. I grew up in an environment where I had to be what everyone else wanted and needed me to be so the last thing I had time to do was figure out who I needed to be, so when I applied for college the only thing I wanted to do was forget how hard the past seventeen years were. I majored in a pointless endeavor to make people adore me. I fought so hard seeking adoration which is something I never really felt, but then when the reality of a breeching adult decisions began appearing in the horizon I ran. I ran away to Atlanta with a…

I’ve always had personal issues ever since I was in seventh grade, but the height of it all really hit me in high school. I think some of it might have been due to the fact that I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. If I’m going to be honest, I was so depressed I didn’t think I would even make it to my graduation, so wondering about my future was just wishful thinking to me. My friend Morgan was the only person who knew what I was going through. One day she told me that she thinks I should start seeing someone to help me, but I just looked at her like she was crazy and walked away. It has never been easy for me to tell people how I’m feeling, so for her to suggest that really aggravated me. After I got home from school that day,…

:”You’re a hands on learner.” It wasn’t a revelation, just a reaffirmation. I sat on top of a desk in a room I didn’t think I would ever find myself back in- the yearbook room. A teacher who knew me well set down her red pen and was looking at me while talking, “I understand it’s been frustrating, but you know what you’ve done wrong and you’re going to improve. That’s what matters.”…

When I was in the 6th grade, I had my first dog, Isabelle. She was a small Dachsund mix with the most beautiful personality. She quickly became my best friend, and one of my only friends in the awkward transition from elementary school to middle school. I spent four amazing months with my newfound friend, when one day, I witnessed her fatal car accident. I felt my world was shattered and became depressed. Once I pulled myself out of sorrow, I knew for certain I wanted to become a veterinarian. I wanted to be able to help people when their closest friends were in need, I wanted to make a difference, and this is why college is important.…
