Personal Narrative: My First Day At Washington Middle School
One fall, in Alaska, four friends were preparing for their first day of school at Washington Middle School. Elated, they were packing their book bags and talking about their first day at middle school. The four friends were Billy, Bob, Jeff, and Tim. They have been everlasting friends since any of them could remember. They were talking about how they could impress everyone in Mrs. Kinley’s first hour class. Mrs. Jefferson, Billy’s mother, met with Mr. Brooks, the principle, Mr. Montana, the janitor, and the nurse, Miss. Simmons. Mrs. Jefferson said they were all very kind and would do all they could to protect the four boys, as they would any other student.
It was difficult for all the boys to sleep, because they were all very anxious for their first day of middle school. They woke

“It doesn’t matter,” Tim said, “As long as you try.” Once Billy went to talk to her he was thinking of things to say to her, like “Hey Ashley, how was your summer?” or, “ How do you like middle school?” He stumbled towards her anxious to talk to her. “Hey, how was your summer Ashley,” Billy blurted, “ Did you do anything fun?” “Yes! I had tons of fun this summer, we went to Disney World,” She replied, “ We saw Rebecca, from last year.” “That’s cool, we went to California to see my aunt Nicki and uncle mark.” He stammered, “I learned something really cool this summer, though.” “Oh, yeah! What did you learn?” Ashley exclaimed. That’s when it happened, when not only Billy’s day but whole school year was ruined. He didn’t really learn anything this summer, why did he say that? So, he did the first thing he could think of. A cartwheel, he wasn’t to impressed either, but he did it anyway. He did a cartwheel, a very sloppy one but a cartwheel, and tripped on her foot and landed his head into Rebecca’s chair. “Oh, my gosh,” screamed Ashley, “ His head is stuck in her chair!” “Someone help him,” exclaimed

The chapter also highlights how Caitlin, similar to Billy, hates private school, and hates the routine that follows when she gets home to her parents. She also recognises that she has more that she really needs in her life and she just wants to spend time with Billy. This is shown in the quote “this big ugly five bedroom million dollar brick box that we live in.” This juxtaposes the feelings that Billy has, as he feels that he is very happy with the new simple life he now lives and this is expressed when he says “living in this carriage is special, its mine”; which links back to how Billy know feels that he belongs in this new environment.…

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

Though Billy displays many positive character traits, his kindness to those around him stands out the most. He exudes genuine care and concern for those around him, especially for Reuven, who shares a similar ailment. Despite only knowing him for a little while, he remarks to his new friend, “We were all very worried about you” (49). Later, he demonstrates kindness to Mr. Savo by encouraging him about his injury, and the hospital staff by not complaining about the food, even though others did. Potok does not write much about Billy in the story, but even the smallest of actions give…

The music was blaring, it was hot and humid, and the smell of sweat and alcohol permeated the air. Collin examined her as she led him up the stairs to the VIP room of the club. She promised him she’d impress him. So far, he wasn’t disappointed. She looked back at him and smiled before she opened the door. She pulled him into the dark room, blindfolded him, and hushed him as he began to protest, telling him she’d be right back. She backed away slowly as he shot her a sinister grin. After several minutes of waiting, he grew impatient, until he heard the door slightly open. He called out her name, only to be answered by a bullet through the head. As Collin bled out, the girl hugged the man with the gun.…
