Personal Narrative: My Experience At The Door Fellowship Christian Church
I have always practiced my religion; however, there are times that I do not always attend mass or service as some people may call it. I was born into a Catholic household, baptized as a baby, made my communion, and confirmation, all these are very important in my Catholic family. On Wednesday, November 2nd I attended a service at The Door Fellowship Christian Church, it was a different experience I had ever had, their service is completely different than a Catholic Church Mass the worship service, music and sacred texts were all different. As I walked into The Door Fellowship Christian Church the first thing I noticed was it was not the typical church I am used to, I was walking into a building. A building they called church, there were no sacred objects such as statues, cross, nor …show more content…
He gave a testament of his life of what he went through and what he experienced, he talked about the abuse of his mother, his abuse of alcohol and drugs, how he died two times and was brought back to life, and not even then he was ready to be “saved”. It was not until he was 25 years old when he found himself homeless and nearly dying from an overdose that he questioned God that if he really did exist to change him and to save him. He stated that at that moment his mother called him to the house he was staying at and asked him to attend church with her because while she was praying she stated that God told her to call him. He then stated that the next morning he walked into church with his mother, once being inside the pastor giving the service made eye contact with him, walked towards him, and as he had the pastor in front of him he began to cry like a baby. Since that day on, Roman is a changed man he stated that after 21 years he has not gone back to his past life of drugs, alcohol, and unhealthy

I never thought how interesting it would be to visit a different place of worship besides Christianity. Since the day I was born I’ve been a Christian and whatever anyone else believes in is wrong and that they are going to hell if they don’t believe in Christianity. About 3 years ago I visited the International Buddhist Progress Society a Buddhist temple in Naperville. Buddhism from what I learned looks more like a way of life or guidelines to it rather than a religion. Buddhism tells you how you could live life better but doesn’t scare you with the prospect of hell instead you live with ignorance. My own history with Christianity still made me doubt or fear the conquences of going to this temple. Part of me believed that I be punished by…

Tired, with a headache, and not in capacity to maintain my eyes open, I remembered next day was Halloween, which was the last thing I remembered before falling sleep. I woke up and saw the watch, it was three o’clock a.m. I listened to a weird sound that came from my closet; it was soft, but I could hear it like a rat scratching the walls. Intrigued about what was happening, I woke up and walked towards the closet. The sound gave me the chills.…

Upon arriving at The Tulsa Day Center at 8 a.m. I was overwhelmed when I noticed that the line into the building had already surpassed the door and was almost to the parking lot. After weaving through the crowd of people attempting to get inside the building, I explained to the security officers that I was a volunteer and proceeded through the metal detector. The Officer then instructed me to sign in, and pointed me to the clothing room where I would report to Forrest. After a couple of seconds of trying to figure out where I was going I stumbled into the clothing room, and introduced myself to Forrest. He was excited to have some help. He took me over to 3 extra-large laundry baskets and asked me to fold all of the blankets and sheets while…

    Muir's Chapel Visit

Anyway, once the service was over I met with Lisa and she began to take me on a tour of Muir’s Chapel. What I saw was amazing. Lisa and I had to pass through the fellowship hall where there were refreshments offered such as coffee, juice, and biscuits with a side of bacon or sausage. This very rarely happens at my church unless it is a special occasion of some sort. I was astonished to find out there were several different refreshments served after each service. Lisa then took on a quick tour of the rest of the church as she needed to readily available to the members if one needed to talk or maybe ask for prayer. So we scurried on to the Contemporary service that was going on in one of the newer parts of the church. I was in this service for only about 15 minutes as this service started at 9:00 A.M., and the Traditional service I attended started at 8:45 A.M. What little I saw was interesting. There was an actual choir at this service, and the choir had a Pop sound, which is closer to what I am used to hearing. At the end of this service Lisa had to leave to attend to some of the members of the church and I had to go to a dedication at my…

My chapter of Alpha Phi Omega is Alpha Beta Zeta, located at Radford University. Each member is required to get 35 community service hours each semester. Service projects occur around the New River Valley and help a variety of community organizations. Because Alpha Phi Omega has a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, we host many projects that allow us to help them facilitate big events. Projects I have worked on include: cleaning a local daycare center, performing trail maintenance along a portion of the Appalachian Trail, collecting food for Meals on Wheels, raising money for different causes, running youth programs for Boy Scouts and 4-H events, cleaning our Adopt-A-Spot, beautifying local parks, and many other programs. Over the…

Religion is one of the factors that help to maintain balance in the world. There are many religions in this world. Every religion has its own beliefs and ways of following it. Religions may vary in many aspects. While some religions may have the same beliefs, some will have the exact opposite beliefs. I come from a place where even though there are many religions found I get to observe and practice only my own religion. Even if people are open about different religions, one religion being involved in another is not acceptable for my society. This is one of the reasons why I have always been curious about other religions and their ways of following and practicing it. This is why when I got a chance to go to a Jewish Synagogue as a part of a religious service…

Three years later I met James Cox. He was living with his Mother’s Pastor Charles and his wife. We met on the job and became friends. James passed his physical for the fire department and he wanted to go out to celebrate. He took me to a very nice restaurant called Max House. Once we were seated he smile and said thank you for accepting my invitation. I brought you here to show you how much I appreciate you for working the extra hours and allow me to get paid for it. Few people would work another’s shifts and gave them the hours. That was the only way he could go through his training and still keep his pay. I had not minded doing that for him. While we sat in the restaurant he thanked me repeatedly for helping him. Then he told me about his life. He came to New York…

Finally, the last service I attended which I did not stay for a long time was The First Free Methodist Church. The service started with singing hymns, and we were singing with the choir, then the leader read from the gospel. However, the leader started to say two stories happened to him about how God is everywhere with us, and every situation in all of the creation at any given time, and in every manner, time and place.…

I chose to attend a Catholic Mass service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. I selected this type of experience because I have never attended a Catholic service. I am an African-American female and I was raised in the Baptist faith. In my community there are very few Black people of the Catholic faith; therefore contacting a friend to attend the service with was impossible. I attended the service on a Monday. The service started at noon. The congregation was predominantly white. The African-Americans I saw were very few in number. Since I am a very open person I was really excited to attend the service. My family on my mother’s side are mostly Seventh - day Adventist and I was taught several ideas about the Catholic Church.…

The person I choice to interview this week just like last week is also someone I turn to when I am faced with questions and concerns regarding all of my biblical classes and sometimes just personal spiritual questions. That person is my pastor and my father in law who has been a southern Baptist preacher for over thirty years. Of those thirty years he has only been pastor of two churches both, which have been very successful while he was and is presently the pastor. When we talk about anything and everything overall we have a great relationship. I choose to interview him this week because I knew he would be able to show me the more experienced side of his ministry because of his years of serving the lord.…
