Personal Narrative: My Experience At Ryerson University
Thinking of some of my most substantial accomplishments, getting into Ryerson University comes across as one major one; however, the one accomplishment that holds the largest magnitude to me was getting hired this past summer with the CNIB. Firstly, it was a lengthily interview process, going through multiple stages, I had a leadership position lined up with the Region of Peel but I turned it down in the hopes of landing a job with the CNIB. Eventually I did receive a conditional job offer, pending I got a number of qualifications, such as my F-class drivers license and CPR and First aid. This summer as a whole was an amazing experience and a huge accomplishment for myself. I truly developed and grew as an individual, and it was working with …show more content…
There was a guest on board that was having bathroom issues all week, so it was in the staffs’ minds that we need to monitor him and make sure he was going to the bathroom often and not drinking too many fluids. Nearly as soon as we got off the boat cruise, the guest had soiled his pants in front of everyone. I did not hesitate taking action, and quickly took him to the bathroom to clean him up, and asked the other staff to find him a change of clothes. Overall, I could have never imagined myself changing someone’s diaper and cleaning them up, but by seeing the state he was in I knew I had to take action quickly. I was recognized by the staff and by the organization for my initiative and ability to problem solve, and this is something I will remember as a tough situation, but as well as an accomplishment. Along with this, it was developing relationships with these people, and spending those quality moments with them and having those conversations, whether they be fun, serious, or empathetic. This Summer job truly was an amazing experience for me, and one I will never forget as I am constantly reminded of the impact it had on me as a person, and as a

I began working at Keeter my first semester at College of the Ozarks. On my first day of work, the supervisor handed me a gleaming gold name tag that not only had my name but the state I came from. I watched as others put their nametags on, and I quickly discovered that most of them read Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. I looked down at my nametag and felt a sense of uniqueness, knowing no one in the room had the state of Virginia. I soon began to realize that my nametag sparked curiosity when the guests saw how far I had traveled. Guest after guest would ask the same question, “How did you end up here?” I answered this question dozens of times within a day. There were days that I would begrudgingly tell the Keeter guests my journey to this College, but never once did I fail to cherish the opportunity I was given.…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…

My time at the community college was used to focus on building a strong academic foundation, specifically tutoring international students English every week as they tried to maneuver through their lives in the United States. I remember during one particular session, a Chinese exchange student told me that when she first arrived in Seattle, she was in a state of euphoria. However, her inability to communicate fluently with her peers hindered her from adapting to the customs in America. Consequently, it impeded her from making her own place in society. Another individual, who emigrated from Eritrea, confessed she was still unfamiliar with having additional resources at her fingertips. She grew up in an area where advanced technological tools,…

proud of myself. My first greatest achievement was when I was accepted by Ocean Medical Center as a junior volunteer, when was a freshman going into my sophomore year of high school. At that time I had never applied for any position outside of school activities, and being a volunteer at the hospital would help me decide whether I wanted to become a doctor like my grandfather or an engineer like my father. When I got the call from the volunteer services office a few days after my interview saying I had been chosen as a volunteer, I was ecstatic. Getting the opportunity to volunteer in a hospital and directly aid doctors and nurses over an entire summer was an honor and I learned many things about a doctor and nurses job from it.…
