Personal Narrative: My Experience At A Mercy Learning Center
When I first entered Mercy Learning Center it felt like a positive atmosphere where everyone wants to learn and excel. Everything and everyone had their place; I saw a lot of people walking into their classrooms and faculty members discussing to each other. It felt like I was in a school and the atmosphere also felt safe. I spoke to the receptionist and she called in the Volunteer Coordinator to show me around the building and where I would be helping out. I got placed in the Early Childhood Department, I was a helper to the teacher and her assistant. It was a great experience to get familiar with working with children. These children were the sons/daughters of the mother students in the center. When I was there I noticed that all the women there were trying to build a better life …show more content…
It made me realize that these women are having another opportunity in recreating their and their family lives. Without Mercy Learning Center they would struggle to find the best courses to receive a GED and help with their children. When I was in the classroom with all the children all the mothers looked motivated to learn. I loved seeing their faces when they dropped off their children knowing that they are in good hands while they go to school. Many people can not find a place like Mercy Learning Center. I believe that women who go there must feel very fortunate to have found this center because now a days it is very expensive to find someone to look after your children meanwhile you attend school. In conclusion, I enjoyed my experience at Mercy Learning Center that I have even accepted to volunteer whenever they are short a staff member. This would be a great opportunity to get my foot in the door in education. Especially working with children in the early childhood program because I plan on educating children around that age someday. This is an experience that I would never

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…

I am a firm believer in the fact that students, whose parents and/or families are involved in their education, are more successful not only in school but in life. I always try to encourage families to be a part of their child’s education and skill building. There are so many ways in which the Center provides opportunities for the families to interact and communicate with the teachers and staff that are taking care of and teaching their children.…

As I got out of my car and started walking to the front door, all I could do was admire this beautiful building that resembled a ranch-style home. When I walked through the front door, the smell of mashed potatoes, baked chicken breast, and wheat rolls filled my nose; it was as if I was walking into my own grandma’s house. In front of me there was a group of people; some in wheelchairs, some using walkers, and others on the couch shouting out answers to the latest crossword puzzles. Walking through these doors brought me to the realization that I was soon going to learn everything about each one of these people. This included how to specially care for and assist them with their everyday needs in this place that they call their home. I did not…

While medical care was available growing up, there were financial or situational periods where it was not necessarily accessible. I am from a single parent family. My mother moved in with my grandparents after her divorce and works two full time jobs to help provide for my brother, grandparents, and I. Since my father went to jail and my grandfather passed, we have had to make many adjustments financially. This was the case due to my father not providing payments for child support for the time he was incarcerated nor occasional months prior. There has also been a complication with my mother and I having our identity stolen, which has created additional problems when applying for governmental aid throughout my undergraduate years. I worked…

This is my first practicum placement in the Lethbridge community and in a daycare centre. It has given me a different, but good experience from working in a Parent Pre-School Program (PPP). This placement is different from my last two placements, because it has allowed me to gain more experience with younger children. The placement still gives the children the opportunity to learn through their play in play areas of language, art, water, sand, blocks, and kitchen (dramatic play). They also, have specific play areas for infant play, play dough, and train set play, which is different from PPP. The placement is a bit more structured by offering a time schedule of outdoor play, nap, snack/meal time, and possible gym time for the children who don’t…

I had the opportunity to observe at the Isabel Patterson Child Development Center in Long Beach. It was my first time observing in this center so I had to be there before my observation time, which was at 2:30pm. Once, I entered the building the atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable. The children I observed where around the ages of three to five. During my observation there was twenty-eight children and five teachers present. The building was all wooden on the inside and at the entrance there was a welcome wall colored with a rainbow. There were art projects hanged on the walls as well as learning material. On the sides of the of the building shelves were organized with labels so that the children would know where to put back the material.…
