Move to U.S helped me to be more confident with myself. In the beginning I was shy to talk to people because I don't know the language. My first year in was hard I can't understand what the teachers said. By this my grades were low in the beginning. But, after of few months I began to understand the language with some struggle to communicate with the people. The things that I confronted become more to handle it. Then, my grades improve and I became more social because I made friends.

If I have the chance to choose again, I will make the same decision that I did before. Because I do something different I will not be the that' I'm now. if I change will not know the people that help me in any trouble I have, I will not complete all the goals that I did here. And I will no a ability to get higher education and a chance to be successful if I put a lot

One day nearly two years ago, I came back from the worst trip and experience ever in my life. Three years ago, my family made the biggest decision of our lifetime together and we had decided to move. Now the fact that we were moving didn’t bother me or my little sister, it was just the simple fact that we were moving from our home that we had grown up in our entire life. The only problem was the fact that we had eventually found out that we were going to move to Oregon. This Alabama home that we grew up in was very special to me and my sister but it wasn’t the one of best of places. We had lived right beside our grandparents and we loved to go up the hill and see them and us moving had rendered that possibility from happening any longer.…

I was born in the city of Monterrey in Mexico. My family decided to move to the US in 2009 due to growing concerns of money and safety. Back then, Monterrey was considered one of the most dangerous places to live in Mexico, as the two main cartels were disputing over the territory. My dad had lost his job and my mom worked part time at a pharmacy. Because public school in Mexico is very poor, my mom had always had me enrolled in private schools. We were in a tight situation, we couldn’t pay for the house anymore and my dad was not having much luck in finding a new job. For this reason, my parents were practically forced to move to the US. After the long, expensive process of applying for visas and passports, we finally were able to move to the land of opportunity. We started from zero, there was absolutely no money in our pockets. I was a new student at a new school in a foreign country. I could not be more self-conscious at any other time in my life. All I could think about was how others saw me and how I fit in with…

“What do you want to be when you grow up? What do you want to gain out of school?” More often than not, cliché questions like these engender banal answers that the questioner could care less about. A set of more genuine questions one could pose would be, “where do you come from and what do you want to do with that?”. See, although plenty of us fantasy with the idea that where you come from doesn’t matter, it does, greatly. It is deeply rooted in everything from the food you like to eat to the potential career you may choose. Of course, we all would love to have a life full of rainbows and cherries, but that is not always the case and frequently it is far from it.…

The origination of your life from whatever corner of the world you hail is just the start of who you will eventually become. The culmination of that start depends on where you end up, which accounts for the direction my life has taken from its starting point to now. I immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 2000. Struggling with the language barrier was but one of the unique challenges faced by myself and my family upon moving to the U.S. It made formal education a challenge, but one thing I was able to take from my home country and my culture in general was my ability to persevere through even the most seemingly insurmountable challenges and roadblocks. During school, I managed to hold down a job to help support my family, which is another cornerstone in my culture and in my life in general. I tried college previously, but had to stop a few times to work longer hours to continue to support my family. This is not unique to my situation; there are thousands of students forced to make the same type of hard decision every day.…
