Personal Narrative: My 5th Period Orchestra Concert
It was the first day of school, and I had just walked into 5th period orchestra. The period went on, with the usual rules and forms, but in the last couple minutes the orchestra directors talked about something called All Region. They told us that this was a competition where orchestra students from 4 different school districts auditioned, to be selected to play in an amazing concert! I was nervous and scared but excited for the challenge. I however knew that the most important thing was that I tried and put in my best effort.
A couple weeks went by and I practiced and perfected 3 out of 4 pieces. Then, came the struggle. I had finally reached the last piece, Toccata, and this piece was extremely difficult. I tried everything from YouTube videos to practicing for 2 hours straight, but nothing worked. Every time I played, the rhythms and notes got scrambled, my bow was squeaky, and my notes were out of tune. I was close to giving up, thinking that I would fail and never master the piece. Then as I was packing up my instrument I reminded myself of all the hard work I put in prior to this day. I was determined to learn this piece!

I had tried learning this piece on my own, but I never went and asked for help from someone else. That day I went to my orchestra director and asked her if she could help me. She told me that she would have to try and find a time to help, because she had a busy schedule. I was determined to get the help and I even skipped my own activities to fit in time for this. In the end she helped me fix my bow grip, and intonation. She was extremely kind, and I always treated her with respect, because I knew that she was taking time to help me. She was an astounding teacher and within a week I had learned the

Holding truth today and in the past, attending classical concerts is hailed as a sign of both sophistication and style. Very reminiscent of 18th Century attendances at places like the Music Center at Strathmore, my noteworthy experience broadened my musical horizon. As a newcomer to classical concert-going, I was enthralled by the aural masterpieces and the alluring atmosphere. In partaking in the National Philharmonic's opening concert of the year at the Music Center at Strathmore, one experiences the warm ambiance of classical music in modern times while retaining its renowned value.…

This was second time I listen to a Jazz concert in our school. Our players always keep a high quality of performance. Besides this relaxed type of performance I also used to go to Chopin’s symphony and other different kind of operas. Listen to a concert performed in the school and played by our schoolmates seems to be more joyful and comfortable. Our players might do not have a professional techniques or organized as the technical symphony orchestra. But their enjoyable and love of music are same which can bring our audience into their atmosphere and move our body along with their playing.…

I was a part of the Newnan High School Marching Band my tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade year. It was a great experience. The Newnan High School Band became like a second family, and the band room was my home away from home. As it got closer to my senior year, I started wondering who was going to get the title of clarinet section leader my last year of marching band. I felt like I would be the one for the job. When they finally informed us that leadership applications were available, I was excited to get my application. I wrote an essay and prepared for my interview. I knew I had the qualities they were expecting in a section leader. I was kind to others, hardworking, friendly, helpful, understanding, and approachable. I anxiously anticipated…

Sweat drizzles down my skin as it exits my pores trying to cool my heated body. The blood rushes through my veins pumping blood with the consistent pounding of my heart. Every breath, every second, every action, every thought; I am standing where everything counts. Artificial turf and grass crumpled beneath my torn black shoes and the thick silence only cut by the timed chants from afar. This is the last moment I will stand here for this reason. This is the last moment I will stand here with my family. This is the last moment of my marching band career. Many will say that this was a special group of kids, others will say that this year was a show that was made to make it. I, on the other hand, will say that this was because of seven years of dedication.…

As somebody who always had trouble fitting in in school, it was really hard to find a place of which I could be a part of. I joined band in middle school, and I enjoyed playing greatly, even if I wasn’t the most talented saxophone player in the program. I wouldn’t say I was passionate about it at the time, but band certainly was a fun and [something] experience, learning to play music with my friends. Through my three years of middle school at Southeast Bulloch, I travelled from second-to-last chair placement in 6th grade to 2nd chair placement in 8th grade. For a lonely, shy middle schooler, it meant a lot to me to have an activity I was good…

My Jr High choir teacher, Mrs. Bradbury, was the most challenging teacher I have ever had. She would never cut the choir a break, and never stopped pushing us to be our best; “I can’t” was not acceptable to her. I hated her with every fiber of my being, and every time she spoke all I wanted to do was sew her lips together. It wasn’t until the beginning of ninth grade when I realized she was amazing. Once I let my guard down, we instantly connected. Recognizing how much I loved to sing and becoming one of the top singers in my choir was thanks to her. I started working for hours every day on my songs, staying late after class for help, and going to voice lessons. I excelled exponentially and Mrs. Bradbury noticed it.…

I was unable to attend either of the two symphony orchestra concerts this semester due to my busy schedule as a rugby player, however, I had attended a symphony orchestra concert last Fall semester with my girlfriend for her St. Josephs College music class at the Stony Brook University Staller Center. I was hesitant to use this experience as it was slightly over a year ago and I fear that I may have forgotten certain important details. I can still remember certain key elements from the concert and the impact it had upon myself. I have also spoken to another friend that recently attended a Stony Brook University symphony orchestra concert in order to stimulate any dormant and preconscious thoughts I may have had in my head of my own experience.…

One of my proudest accomplishments I have achieved in my life was receiving my first superior rating in the Solo and Ensemble competition in 9th grade. The Solo and Ensemble competition is where students are able to form small groups or remain solo and perform a piece of music for an adjudicator. In my group with a cello, viola, and violins I was performing as one of the two violins. I remember my group would rehearse everyday at school for a couple months and would work hard each time to sound better. I also put in lots of practice outside of school to achieve an exceptional sound in order for our group to sound best as possible. When it came time to perform at the Solo and Ensemble competition our group had sounded even better than when…
