Personal Narrative-La Lady Bugs
I can speak in front of an audience about Best Buddies, or be put on the spot and not flinch. I can go on a mission trip across the world, see poverty, anguish and violence yet not be afraid. I can learn to get along with my peers despite very strong contradictions in our ethics and styles. I can watch late night episodes of criminal minds and stay home alone with not an ounce of fear. But, there is one thing that makes shivers go up my body, tears stream down my face and my whole body just freeze.
Lady bugs. I spent years trying to be perfect, and if not perfectly perfect then at least seemingly perfect. I tried to be the person who always had a big smile, something wise to say and a positive outlook. I spent high school finding friends that I knew would help me become a better person. I got involved in countless activities and truly enjoyed every moment volunteering, participating and leading the organizations I belonged to. I tried to keep my cool at all costs, promising myself I would handle personal problems outside the eye of my peers. But, there was always one thing that broke my “image”, one thing that became my kryptonite.

At school, I try to be funny. I’m the first person to admit I am the slowest on the team, the worst pick for dodgeball, and probably not the person that should be trusted to be a tutor in math. So people talk about fears, whether it’s a get to know you game or a simple conversation filler, the topic is bound to come up. Most people I talk to have a fear of drowning, maybe being kidnapped, crashing on a plane, or falling off a cliff. I’m a realist and the things people are afraid of, well they aren’t common occurrences. But, on the other hand, my fear I face it almost every day, whether in a corner, on the ceiling or hidden outside I am bound to always be forced to fact

Language has played a big role in making my life successful. As senior year was ending I had a major life changing decision. I was unsure whether to pursue my passion of baseball in California, or to hang up my cleats for the last time on a high note. Although this was not a life or death decision, It was still a decision that was still near and dear to my heart. After going to several people for help and many sleepless nights, I still felt helpless. I finally came to the conclusion after hearing "The Babe" in the movie Sandlot tell Benny Rodriguez, "Everybody gets one chance to do something great. Most people never take the chance, either because they're too scared, or they don't recognize it when it spits on their shoes." that’s when I decide…

Just like most civilized people I dislike bugs. Actually I really hate them! Just thinking about them gets me all itchy and uncomfortable, and yet one summer evening I would find myself sticking my hands right into their dark slimy lair. I swear God has a weird sense of humor at times. But I guess he knew me well enough to know that I hate dead kittens more than those nasty creepy crawly slimy BUGS! This is my story about the night I became a life saver and was able to overcome my fear of creepy nasty bugs….at least for a few minutes.…

There is the fight or flight that every living being uses, animal and human. Humans often have other bodily reactions to fear, such as fast heart rate, sweaty palms and many others. Often times, the same person can have different reactions to different situations. For example, when I take a big test or write an essay, my hands begin to sweat. Not only does this help me calm down, I am able to focus on the task at hand. I have had a lasting fear of “The back room” in my house, it is a room that is unfinished and is used for storage purposes. I fear the room because it has a decent amount of old stuff, the room is dusty, and it is a dwelling for many arthropods and arachnids. I do not hate the room itself, because it holds the water heater and all the tools to make my house work smoothly, but I fear what lies behind the boxes, the old board games, and the unknown inside it all. Every time I have to go back in the room, I shiver and shudder and pray that there is not any sudden movement that passes my feet. While I shiver at the thought of bugs and the unknown I also have a terrible fear of heights. My fear is so bad I can barely go on the final step of a six foot ladder. I refuse to go into the attic and I scoff at the idea of helping my sister put Christmas lights on the roof. When I do come to a situation when I am on a rooftop or on a mountain overlooking a valley, not only am I…

Even though I wasn’t your typical toddler, how could I have been so stupid? I may have been an utterly curious rug rat, maybe even more. However, once an idea popped up in my pint size brain it stayed there….Until I tried it. Most things weren't terrible. They were just average ideas that most toddlers think of. Just like they say in the commercials, “Kids discover the world with their mouths.” Another example of this is like biting the table because its looks like a humongous cookie. In most cases this was true. In my case, it was a little more extreme.…

Fear has a component of biological traits and genes but there are also many environmental experiences that impact what you are afraid of as an adult. As children we are taught that making a mistake is wrong and many times we get punished for simple errors that are no big deal. We are all afraid of failure but there people that are just too afraid, this is a consequence of bad treatment during childhood. The best way to overcome fear is by being confident in what you are afraid of. As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…
