The mind has an unlimited scope for imagination. If one had a hypothetical ticket to any destination of their choice in their hand, they could imagine to go to any place in location, or time, they desired. If I had a ticket to any destination I chose, I’d choose to use the ticket as a round-trip go to the Roanoke Colony that disappeared in the late 1600s. I’d like to witness the event that made the Roanoke Colony disappear without any trace of the perpetrator, and bring back the information to modern day for historians.…

I can’t seem to wrap my head around how drastically things can change in a short amount of time. It seemed as if I was in El Salvador a few months ago, when in reality it’s been two years. I can still remember every single detail of my trip. From getting coconut water when first arriving to saying goodbye to family before heading to the airport. All I can picture is the beautiful green fields and the little corner shops. I can still hear the sound of kids playing in the streets and the ringing bells of ice cream carts. The image I have of El Salvador is completely different to what it is like now.…

My experience with failure came with athletics. For my whole life I have always been involved in sports like soccer, tennis, basketball. When I was in the fourth grade I joined a swim team and that was the first and really only sport that I stuck with; swimming came naturally to me, and it was something that I could do year round and I loved every minute of it. However, once I was in high school I stopped swimming and joined my high school’s cross country team. My dad was a runner all throughout high school so I thought it would be a good idea to give the sport my father loved a chance. The cross country team allowed me to grow, and I learned things about myself including that fact that I can’t run. It’s not that I can’t physically run, I have…

One thing that sets me apart from the other candidates applying to the University of California is my hard work. I have always been smaller than other kids my age. At 15 years old I was 4’ 10’’ and looked like I was eleven years old. Although this was an advantage at the airport, when I would begin to take off my shoes and the TSA Officer would look at me and say, “Don’t worry twelve and under can keep their shoes on.” I was often discredited for my size. Especially because I played volleyball, a sport known for its height. I constantly struggled to make a team I deserved to be on because people would see my height and automatically think I was not capable. Although my height often led me to feel discouraged and angry it eventually taught hard work.…
