Personal Narrative Essay: Snowball
As I crossed the road with my dog Henry, I could feel the frigid winter breeze on my face. Then I felt a snowflake land on my nose like a plane landing after a long flight. I didn’t like this cold weather at all but I had heard many children around me cheering and laughing. I heard things like “woohoo it is snowing” and things like “oww don't throw snowballs at my face”. That last one made me chuckle a little bit when I had heard it. Then I heard someone yell my name, which is Brian by the way. So I turned around and felt a big snowball hit my back.

”Bull's eye!” The child was tickled pink, I reckon. So I yelled at Henry to stop walking and I felt his leash slacken. Next, I bent down, and yelled
“Hey boy”,and threw the snowball I had just made.
”How did you know where I was

So I shot the ball straight up, hoping to get a little arch on it. All of a sudden, I heard everyone screaming and shouting.

“You made it!” the woman told me.
I couldn’t describe how I felt. I was astonished, I guess. We turned around, running to the other side of the court, and the crowd cheered again. Someone else made a basket too! This was the most exciting day of my life. I could feel my smile get the biggest and the brightest it had ever been. Then, I was guided to the other side of the court again and before I knew it I had made another basket. Sadly, and too soon, the game was over and everyone was cheering their heads off.

“You did amazing! You scored more than anyone on the court,” the woman informed me. “Ma’am, do you know how much that game meant to me?” I asked. “Well good, that meant a lot to me too,” she laughed.
I then realized that at that moment, even though I am blind, in one day I had just had a snowball fight, ate lunch by myself, (well, with Henry’s help of course) and played basketball, scoring a total of 10 whole points. So remember…….

Even when you have a setback, don’t let it stop you from living life the way you want

After finishing my breakfast the game started and I was a starting point guard and i was also the jumper. I tipped the ball to my team we started with it. By the end of the first quarter we were up 12-0 with all points scored by me. In the second quarter we started with the ball and immediately scored on the other team. After scoring the immediate basket we all knew this quarter was going to be like the first one, a total blow out. We ended the second quarter 21-0 still with all points scored by me.…

This is not only because my team made it to the championship, but also because I got to play with my sister. At first, I was not thrilled with the idea of my thirteen year old sister playing with me, however, after the first game I realized that it was an asset to have her as a teammate. We were both quick, nimble and in sync. For once, my sister was actually listening to my advice, on and off the court. I have CBAA to thank for the irreplaceable bond that I got to make with my sister, because this year I was not only her teammate, but her mentor, role model, and best…

Danger levels or no danger levels, Snowbird tickets were quite expensive; so when we showed up to find a number of the main lifts closed due to the wind, we were not about to just turn around and go home. There still remained quite a few lifts that were not shut down, even though we could see the chairs swinging in the wind. My brothers and I honestly wondered why they were shutting down the lifts considering the wind was not very intense. We had snowboarded in much harsher weather and actually looked forward to the challenge of forcing our way against 20 mile an hour winds. The wind picked up to twice that speed once we were at the top however. The first lift we decided to board was called The Peruvian Express which rose from 8,110 ft. above sea level to a 10,518 elevation. This was the second longest lift on the hill, the first being closed much to our chagrin. It was always our tactic to get close to other skiers in order to hear the normal conversations of where the snow was good and where to not go. As we approached the line to the lift, we could quickly tell from the conversations that the conditions were on the harsh side.…

AND ONE!!!! It was the last basketball game of my sophomore season. We played Stagg at Home, in the main gym. Everyone was there because it was the last game and it was at home. Coach Thompson substituted me for Darius with 5 minutes and 42 seconds left to play, we were already up 10 so he just emptied out his bench to give everyone some final playing time. When I got in I instantly caught fire. I don’t know what got into me I just couldn’t miss, even if I wanted to. I was making mid- range shots, 3’s and I was also getting to the basket. My first shot was a pull up jumper about 15 feet away from the basket, it was nothing but net. After I made that shot I felt as if I could do anything, so I kept scoring. When I made my first 3, the team basically…

It was a Saturday and we were playing Van Wert in a regular season basketball game and it was close. It was a Junior varsity game. We were only playing two quarters due to the lack of numbers. The game didn’t count for much but we were giving it our all. Van Wert wasn’t a favorite of ours and we were doing just about anything just to win. The game was intense. The coaches were yelling. The crowd was cheering. The gym exploded with sound coming from all directions. We were equally matched. We trailed for most of the game but we were always very close. As the game was winding down, we were trailing by just a few points. We had the ball. The ball was stolen and we were all sprinting down the court to stop it. I got a hand on the ball from behind…

The entire crowd was absolutely silent. The eyes of every spectator were fastened on me as I looked towards the ground in shame. Why did I take the shot? Why didn’t I just pass the ball and let someone else feel this regret? Why, was the only question I kept wanting myself to answer, but was also the question I kept trying to forget. I could hear my fellow teammates talking like I were a hologram not good enough to even exist in their presence. I awaited my coach to release all the anger he had felt during my biggest mistake. Then, finally after what felt like an eternity, coach walked in. He had the same shame that I felt, the shame of defeat.…

I was tired and my face was numb; I forgot my face mask at my uncle’s house. I wasn’t in any rush to get home but the wood stove and my comfortable bed was a pleasing thought. The headlight on my snowmobile was only shining about ten feet in the distance when a giant moose stepped out in front of me. I immediately pulled my breaks, but it was too late to avoid contact. I was looking up at the towering moose; ready to fly forward all I could think about is how to survive this situation. My body became calm and everything went quiet. The score was 28-26 as one of Gaston’s best shooters approached the line, she was set to take two foul shots. She was a stoutly young girl, who had the slight resemblance of a boy. It was a wonder she was one of their best free-throw shooters when her shot form looked like a cross between a flying squirrel taking flight, and a swimmer swimming. The away team’s bench sounded off a mighty cheer for the girl, then the ref tossed her the ball and all fell silent, so silent that you could hear the girl’s nervous heartbeat flutter from the pressure as she began her shooting ritual. “toom toom toom” echoed the three dribbles prior to her shot, she lined up executed her radical shotform and “swshhhh” sounded the first shot as it sank into the net, suddenly the crowd erupted with cheers for the away team, amongst the chaos you could hear the few exasperated moans and sighs of the fans of the home team. As the girl lines up for her next shot like clockwork she begins her ritual again, then she releases however this time it hits the side of the rim and bounces once, twice, thrice, then swish sounding “BUUMM, BOOM, SWISH” and for the second time in minutes the fans of Gaston erupted into a joyous roar of approval, suddenly the girl's shoulders lifted and you could tell her stress eased, as the score turned 28-28. The ball then belonged to city as they were dribbling down coach Nichole was signaling for a timeout and her pleas were not heard, she began louder, louder, then she went onto the court and signaled in their face and signaled for a time. The ref immediately brought his hands up to the shape of a T simultaneously blowing his whistle, in the notion of…
