Personal Narrative Essay: An Abusive Relationship With Her Husband
My cousin Sandra had been in an abusive relationship with her husband for years; she had recently divorced her husband because of the abuse. He would continue to call her, threaten her, and telling her no one else would have her. She had gotten several restraining orders against him and reported all of his threatening phone calls to the police, but for some reason this was still not enough. On one Tuesday evening, before my cousin was getting ready to leave for work, she expressed to her mom that she had this strange feeling something bad was going to happen. My aunt stated she consoled Sandra and told her to just pray about it and everything would be alright. She kissed her mom and dad and said goodbye as usual. On her way to work,

Help! Somebody call the police!” Employees and managers came running to the front, and as they ran out to help, it was too late. She stated everyone was in shock as management tried to pull everyone together sending them back inside to the breakroom, leaving her brother with his sister lying in blood. When the police and ambulance arrived, they found Sandra unresponsive, and her brother crying “Please help my baby sister.” Sandra was pronounced dead, for she had been shot six times. The ex-husband sat there in his car awaiting the police’s arrival. His only words were “She left me” as they took him away in the police car and news cameras flashed. Police reports surfaced that Sandra had reported her ex-husband had been stalking her for months. According to (Mechanic, 2007), Stalkers can be notably angry and delusional. Stalkers have been known to harass or threaten another person causing them to be afraid for their lives. The Article stated that there are reports of people being stalked reported daily, but most often time nothing is done until it is too late.
According to an article called “Stalking and domestic violence” all 50 states have anti- stalking laws with punishment for the first offense being a felony, but where the issue comes in is when the police ask the victim if one has proof that they are being stocked (Walker & Meloy, 1998).
