It was a chilly October evening. The air was crisp and cool; it was the type of air that would hit you in the face when you walked out the door. My mom had just gotten informed that she had breast cancer. It came as a shock to everyone in the family, seeing as no one in her family had been diagnosed before her. Although she still had to go through more treatments she kept thinking positive, since radiation wouldn’t prevent her hair from growing. I could tell she was relieved when it started growing back since she wouldn’t have to wear a wig around my grandmother anymore. My grandma is the kind of person who worries about every little thing, so we thought it would be best for her to keep my mom’s condition a secret. It was hard for her, and she still feels guilty about it. Finally, after the therapy was over and she took a few more tests, the doctor could finally announce the news that we were all waiting to hear. My mom was finally cancer free.
This whole ordeal gave me a completely new perspective on different generations. Before this, I thought that there wasn’t much new to learn, but instead, I learned something that was so much more important than learning to ride a bike or something like that; I learned to be determined, even if the situation is rough. I learned to appreciate what I have and enjoy the little things in life. These things will stay with me until I am no longer alive.
