Personal Narrative: Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies
I jumped out of bed this morning and had a craving
I had a tough night of waiting Crunch! What was that?
I instantly noticed the delicious smell permeating through the air
Like the amazing fragrance of baked chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven
No! It can’t be, is it a burrito?
Each day you’re the only thing I desire
I would do anything to just to have a bite of your deliciousness
You are my purpose for living

Oh Burrito, your outer shell is warm and smooth like the delicate skin of a newborn baby
Each bite is smooth, appetizing, and pleasant, bringing me closer to heaven.
You hold all the condiments I desire
Like juicy, tender Carne Asada that gives you a bold taste
Or, the gooey, cheese that holds the burrito together
The guacamole,

When asked to write about a childhood experience most people think of the time they lost their first tooth when they were 6, or about the time they started school when they were 5, however, I’m going to write about summer. It wasn’t just any summer it was the summer that I went to the lake with my Dad and Papa. I was about 4 and couldn’t be any more excited about what was going to happen…

It wasn’t quite the usual Saturday morning in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We woke up at 6:00, brushed my teeth, and did a final rehearsal of the songs we were going to perform. Then we ate breakfast, where I ate after dinner rolls with chili sauce like it was normal. extra slice of chocolate cake. Then we got dressed up in a white formal shirt and black pants. We were ready for the performance which was from 10:00 to 10:28. Then we rested for thirty minutes. We drove to the town hall to perform. We carried our instruments. Then I went backstage and had 5 bars of kitkat. My hands and feet were cold of nervousness since this was going to be our first performance. I bet the nervousness was a million times more than the excitement.…

Corn hole was the second thing I tried at Fall Fest. This game is not the most thrilling thing in the world. There were several people that were waiting to play because it was pretty much the only thing to do. I am not very good at it, which is weird because the only thing you have to do is toss a bean bag onto a wooden box that has a hole in it. I have never understood the corn hole rules so that didn’t help. The way to get points is by making it in the hole or if the bag stays on the board, but I don’t know how the scoring works. My bags always missed or bounced off the board anyways. I was going to play volleyball after corn hole, but there was no one else playing it so I just watched a bunch of other people play corn hole. Countless other…

My best Pecan Fest experience was last year. I rode the Zipper with Austen and Hayden for most of the time. My friends and I played all weekend and had fun. We bought lots of confetti eggs. They were very useful when we used them on other people. We also bought silly string and sprayed lots of people. We went on the Zipper at least 10 times. I went on the MI twice. I went on the Pharos Fury a couple times. I ran around the yard with my friends and we rode on lots of rides. I helped my mom with her booth and I got a lot of people to play the game. I also watched my little brother perform on stage. After that I ate some food and then went one the Zipper. I felt so sick after. I got some water and I went home. The next day we went back to the…

I will never say that I regret going to Waffle House; I do not. It was one of the best times that I have ever had. My friends are so goofy and wild that anytime with them is never boring. I also connected with Leo, which was amazing. We laughed, cried, and talked about everything and nothing. It turned out that we had a lot of things in common; we liked the same music, books, and even paintings. Also, I found out that he was very open-minded and kind; two qualities that are very important to me. The whole night with my friends and him felt movie-like and I will never forget it. I think that it was a good experience to…

As a Chinese-American, my family expected me to help out at the restaurant while maintaining straight A's in school. But, it wasn't easy; every day, I would report to the restaurant after school and immediately start working. Inside the kitchen, I would pack all the orders into aluminum containers, place them into a brown bag, and insert packets of sauces and utensils. Burns and cuts were common due to the terrible and tearable aluminum containers. Outside at the front desk, I would answer the seemingly endless ringing phones. In many instances, customers had to wait either on the phone or at the front desk for me to find their orders on the computer, even after they showed me where it was on the menu. During lunch hours, the pressure was even…

I hate Oreos. “Milk’s favorite cookie”? Yeah, right. Do not get me wrong who can resist a Snickers or a slice of cherry pie, I love sweets, but I would pass on a whole box of Oreos for these any day. Being called this sweet name with such a vicious meaning behind it ruined this sugary treat for me. According to my friends I have a severe problem with not being “black” enough, and they claim my numerous track accolades are the only “black” thing about me. I have always been proud of my Caribbean heritage, my parents instilled in me from day one to never shy away from my Jamaican and St. Maarten upbringing, but growing up in white suburbia has made it difficult. Throughout most of my grade school career I have been one of approximately 5 black kids in my grade, and in high school I have been one…

In Defense of Food was quite shocking at first. In all honesty, it made me think I was going to die within the next week due to a heart attack triggered by all the junk I eat. Considering I myself indulge in processed cookies from the aisles of Stop and Shop, and steak tips that have been marinating in salt for two days, the film hit close to home. But in all honesty, I don’t eat that bad; in comparison to the Seventh-Day Adventists I do, but I think I’m doing alright.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

It was a perfectly normal Saturday night, until I sat on the couch. I expected to enjoy a funny movie with my dad, but instead I got a trip to the hospital. I sat on the couch, and then I felt a sting in my elbow. At first, it felt like I got a shot at the doctor, but it slowly got worse, and felt more like a knife slicing into my elbow. I winced and sprung up from the couch. I squinted and my eyes scanned the spot where I just sat down. Aha, I thought. There was a small piece of plastic, and it looked like it broke off from a container.…
