Personal Narrative: A Midsummer Night's Dream
This did not just happen, Lysander did not say he hates me and Helena did not just lose our friendship. This can’t be right, it simply can’t. Waking up I was worried for Lysander’s life, when I should have been worried about his love for me. Are we over? Are we done? Was my father right? No he can’t be because even Demetrius hates me. I went from having 2 men chasing after me to having everyone hate me, how was I so stupid. These woods have changed everyone, I do not know how, but I sense something, something magical, something evil, like witchcraft. Now I’m going insane.
Lysander declared his love for Helena he said the word only meant for me. “Love” his love belonged to me, now it belongs Helena, that snitch stole his heart with her never

The general treatment of women in ancient times such as the Elizabethan and the Ancient Greek era varied in great degrees from the treatment of women in the contemporary twenty-first century. In more ancient eras, women were generally viewed as men’s property and not as individual human beings. Women were not even allowed to choose their spouse. It was common that this type of arrangement was made by their family, and the determining factors were usually age, social status and wealth. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream Hermia jeopardizes the future of her entire family with the refusal of marriage to Demetrius and also goes drastically against the ruling society of her time. It was unthinkable for a woman to make such a choice by herself, especially for such a trivial reason as love. Yet Queen Elizabeth’s refusal to marriage lead to the “acceptance” of certain things; thus in the end, Hermia becomes married to the man of her choice instead of the man her family chose). In Act I, Scene I Theseus tells Hermia to treat her father as a God:…

As soon as the new year came into existence, I created a list of goals to complete in 2016, all of which I plan to complete with gusto (I love that word, it sounds so silly). One of those goals (#5 on my list actually) is to finally get my hands on a first edition of The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux and stare at it in wonder as if it were a fairy princess riding a unicorn into the sunset. I don't even have to purchase it, just hold it and touch it like it is a priceless treasure (which it is).…

Lysander and Hermia, both young and well-off, are unpermitted, according to the Ancient Privilege, to wed each other without the approval of Hermia’s father, Egeus. However, not quite prepared to end their relationship, the lovers very ambitiously and suddenly run into a nearby forest. They have done so without considering the consequences, and as a result, find themselves lost. Lysander suggests this, when he says, “Fair love, you faint wandering in the wood, and in truth, I have forgot our way,” (II. ii. 41-42). Later in the play, the duke of Athens, Theseus, overbears Egeus’ will, and insists Lysander and Hermia wed each other on his marriage day. Hermia, in quickness and happiness, agrees, without considering her father’s reaction. By doing so, she may be sacrificing her relationship with him. In both situations, the young Athenians pay no attention to the consequences of their relationship, which supports the idea that love ignores all…

Tom wondered for what seemed to be the millionth time why Dectives were required to dress like wall-street bankers or stock analysts. At least that was the expectation in public, however the moment he had the office to himself, he unknotted his tie, slipped off the linen suit jacket, and undid the top button of his shirt, then sat back in his chair, raised his eyes to the ceiling, and tapped the tip of a ballpoint pen against his teeth. That was Tom's usual mode of concentration and contemplation, and so intent was the man's focus on the new case that all else slipped from his mind, even the recollection that he'd texted his wife. Therefore, the sudden familiar sound of her voice, accompanied by the enticing aroma of barbecue, startled him, and he immediately shot upright. The sight of Lila elicited a smile that only widened with the greeting and kiss. "Sorry baby."…

It’s funny how we try to fool ourselves into thinking we have any control of our lives. We live with the idea that we have full authority over our choices and our days. In early 1989, My husband, Charles, and I were living in Charleston SC and had just been blessed with our first baby girl. Bringing her home had put my Master’s Degree on hold, and my husband felt that this would be a perfect time for us to move, but I quickly nixed his plan.…

In the comparison of these two individuals they are very different in character. Lysander seems to have his way with words and is curious about someone’s feelings and doesn’t do anything in hatred. He acknowledges that true love can have a rough road and have up and down emotions. Demetrius, on the other hand, always seems to be mad in the story. He has finally had it with Helena and just had to be straight up honest with her about his lack of feelings for her, but in a rude kind of mean way. He doesn’t care about her feelings or how she would be crushed by his direct approach. He really hasn’t cared about anybody in the story except himself. He just thinks he can have what he wants no matter whom is hurt in the process. These characters…
