Personal Essay: My Experience As A Cadet Officer School
I have been a member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol for five years. Every year has brought about new challenges and new achievements which might serve as evidence to my growth from a child to an adult; however, no such challenge or triumph was greater than my graduation from Cadet Officer School, a strategic leadership school held at Maxwell Air Force Base. Cadet Officer School’s purpose was to act as the “finishing school” for Cadet Officers, but behind the education was a life changing experience which caused myself to think critically about what I wanted in life and where I was going.

In Civil Air Patrol I have already been promoted to the rank of Cadet Captain, attended Cadet Officer School, and acted as the Cadet Commander of 50 Cadets, but I wanted continue share my experience and help cadets so I have decided to apply for the Cadet Commander of our Encampment. Essentially I would be the lead Cadet in charge of over 100 Cadets, for an 11 day event. This represents a huge leadership challenge that I am determined to take head on in order to provide the most benefit to my Cadets. I believe that my role as a senior cadet is to not “be in charge” but to act as a guide for cadets to experience the same life changing events that I was given the fortune of having.
In truth, there is no real distinguishing mark in one’s progression from childhood to adulthood. We age and grow, but one’s family, culture, or community cannot determine when it is that you become an adult. It is only through internal reflection and critical thought can one decide they have begun that transition. Cadet Officer School acted as my first step into the long path to adulthood, and if my journey must start now I am glad it started

Almost three and a half years ago I was a new freshman cadet in NJROTC at San Ysidro High School. I started off at the bottom like any other cadet, but I was surprisingly the quiet one of all. Although I was new, I knew where I wanted to stand in the unit. I wanted to be more than what people knew me as, the quiet and shy girl who only joined the program because her brother is in it. Cadets knocked me down for months to the point where I wanted to quit and give up because I thought I lost all hope…

My experience in the Corps of Cadets has been the most rewarding. The Corps is the closest you can get to living and breathing Texas A&M. It molds you into a person you didn’t think possible. We all look back to our former selves and can’t help but chuckle. In high school, I was naive. I thought math was my strongest subject. Surely, I was ready for college and the rest of the world. My plan was to join the Corps so I could get the highest paying job. All for me. Also, I wanted to be challenged…

Engberg WR 121/ Essay #1 9 July, 2013 My School Experience Throughout my life I have always struggled with school. You could say it’s because I have ADHD. That seems to be the favorite reason given by people who were trying to figure out why this “smart” kid was doing so miserably in school. I wasn’t convinced. For whatever reason though, I’ve always been a terrible student. Through high school, my plan was to join the military when I graduated; worry about college later. So my logic was to…

At the beginning of my freshmen year, I joined Leo Club as a way for me to meet other people as well as help out within my community. Leo Club made such a significant impact on my life just from one year as it allowed me to befriend other students that I never would have imagined I would one day call my closest friends. 5. It would be an honor and a privilege to continue my service as a Surface Warfare Officer. I had the pleasure of being assigned to the USS Chung-Hoon during my senior Midshipman cruise. While on the Chung-Hoon, I was tasked with assuming the role of conning officer. I was held to the same expectation as my running mate; I was to have in-depth knowledge of the ship’s navigational capabilities, report for duty fully prepared to assume responsibilities, and, at all times, be diligent when working…

I must say joining Law Enforcement was one of my better decisions I made on CG. But yet again, after a few months of progressing through the ranks and experiencing the RP side of being an LEO, I didn't like the role-play feedback I was getting out in the field. To become a member of EMS would be my last best resort, and regardless of me experiencing poor…
