Personal Essay: Who Am I?

I was born in Brazil, on the 27th of June, 1986. That's where I lived until I was 8 years old, and then I moved to the United States for the first time. My father wanted to achieve a Master's Degreee in Marketing, but we had not moved to a little town in the state of Michigan for only his advantage. He also wanted me and my older brother to learn a second language because he believed we would greatly benefit from this experience. My dad was right, for what I gained from learning English became obvious to me soon after those years. After living in Michigan for three years, we returned to Brazil, and still at a young age, I realized that having learned english was one of the best things that had happened to me. I could easily achieve an A in English class, and sometimes to my enjoyment even correct the teacher when he was mistaken. Some years went by, and one day my father came home with the news our family was having the opportunity to move back to the United States. He had been offered a job at a Book Publishing Association, which was located in the state of Maryland. Once again, having learned English proved to be very beneficial. I was enrolled in High School and did not struggle with the language as much as I would have if I had not learned English at a younger age. Nowadays, my love for language and writing has grown so much I even want to persist a Degree and career in Journalism. I am a very fortunate and thankful person because of my family and background, my education, my accomplishments in the area of volunteer work, and also because of my goals and objectives in life.

I am a very fortunate and thankful person because of my family and background. Since the day I was born, I was raised in a Christian home. By my parents teachings and my brothers influence, I was brought up to always have good manners. From my family, I acquired good character traits such as honesty, perseverance, obedience, respect, and good conduct. I was also educated to be a hard worker and to continually strive to do my best. I am lucky because my family comes from a good background and also because I was raised to have a good comportment.

Another reason why I am a very fortunate and thankful person is because of my education. My father is a very educated person, and when it comes to wanting to learn, he greatly influenced me. Because of his impact on my decisions, I have recently graduated from high school and enrolled in college. I am also skilled in the area of music, as I know hoe to play both the piano and the flute, and do so willingly during my free time. Likewise, I am clever when it comes to language, for I know how to read, write, and speak fluently both in Portuguese and English.

In addition, I am a fortunate and thankful person because of my accomplishments in the area of volunteer work. During my spare time, I enjoy being useful and helping other people. Because of that, I am part of a Youth Emergency Service Group, and with that group I have already helped aid people in 2001, with the occurence of the Virginia Floods, and in 2004, with Hurricane Isabel. Every now and then, I also enjoy visiting old people at the nursing home and playing the flute at my home church.

Finally, I am a fortunate and thankful person because of my goals and objectives in live. When I get older, I want to be very successful. I believe that the key to success is education, so I am currently enrolled in college to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. In the future, I also plan on achieving a Master's Degree. Next, I intend on having a family. I would like to get married and have children. I am favored because I have goals and objectives for the future, such as having a career and a family.

In conclusion, I am a very fortunate and thankful person because of my family and background, as I was raised in a Christian home. Also, because of my education, for I have graduated from High School and am skilled in other areas. In addition, I am lucky because of my accomplishments in the area of volunteer work, as I always help people when I can. Finally, I am favored because of my goals and objectives in life, as I plan on achieving a Master's Degree and having a family.
