In the article, “The Winning Edge,” the author, Peter Doskoch, explains the reasons to persevere. When you start something, don’t stop until you reach success. Thomas Edison said, “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Doskoch, Pg. 161, Paragraph 3). Being successful doesn’t pay off if it’s easy. Some will give up because “it’s too hard.” Isn’t that where the joy of success comes from? If it’s easy, it’s not worth it. You also have to realize that nobody is perfect, no matter how hard they try to be. “The Winning Edge,” tells us how there is always more room for improvement. We are all human, and it is natural for us to make a couple mistakes here and there. The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes. Another point that “The Winning Edge” points out is that we should all learn to like what we do. When we make a crappy mistake and take a wrong turn in our lives, make the most out of it. Doskoch mentions that “Perseverance...can itself foster…

He fights with the lead dog, Spitz, often, until one time Buck finally beat him in a fight. On the other hand, my Gram went to college and took a speech class. She was afraid of speaking in front of a large group of people, so she used perseverance to help her control her decisions. While Buck and Gram are different, they were both afraid at one point and both beat a fear they had. Both Gram and Buck had to experience something new, whether it was fighting with another dog or going to college and talking in front of people.…

My dad had to work through the many physical and mental challenges and tests in order for him to make his dream come true. However, when he met my mom and they were instantly in love. After they got married, my mom spoke to my dad telling him that if they were going to have a family, my mom wouldn't want to have to worry about his safety, because being a firefighter is very dangerous and stressful on a family. So, my dad decided that being a dad was more important to him. Although it was still hard for him to know that his hard work to become a firefighter was all for nothing. Another example of when my dad had to persevere was when he had a seizure. My dad had 3 seizures and he told me that he felt as if he wasn't in control of his body. He said that knowing he didn’t have control was one of the scariest things he has experienced. He had to work through fears going through his head, but also physically. He had to go through many tests and recovery assignments that required him to persevere physically. Overall, my dad has worked very hard to get to where he is now and that is why he is a great example of showing what perseverance can…
