The Islamic revolution lasted one year with as many as 3,000 casualties. Afterwards a strict government, of Islamic fundamentalists, took control of Iran. This government enforced many strict laws against women, men, schools, and everyday life. Persepolis is a story of how a young girl and her family survived this horrific event. Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis presents how she grew up in Iran dealing with a revolution, the dangers in Iran, and her own religion. Marjane grew up during the 1970’s. Throughout this period there was a revolution; in her personal story she discusses dealing with the revolution and chaos. The revolution caused Marjane to experience lots of dangerous situations from stabbings on the streets to neighbors houses being bombed she describes her terrifying experience in Persepolis. Marjane is a Muslim, in her story she dreams of being a prophet and shows how she practices Islam differently from other people in her community. Satrapi encounters several dangerous situations she describes her dangerous experiences in Persepolis. One example is when Marjane saw a woman getting stabbed and others getting beaten at a demonstration that she took part of (Satrapi 76). Marjane was endanger at that moment for she could’ve been stabbed by one of the attackers or beaten. According to Satrapi, when the sirens rang that there was a bomb her and her family ran to the basement (103). Again, Marjane was in danger because her town was getting bombed and she could’ve got hit by one of these bombs. In Persepolis Marjane writes about her memory of Iran including all the danger her and her family dealt with directly, some of those dangers are from people of her own community and
