Percussion Ensemble Concert Report
The concert I attended was the Percussion Ensemble directed by Dr. Colin Hill. The ensemble took place in the Bryan Fine Arts Building at the Wattenbarger Auditorium in Tennessee Tech University. The ensemble lasted about an hour and half. The ensemble consisted of seventeen members in total and every member performed passionately to their piece. The hall looked elegant and the members looked well dressed. The instruments looked very shiny and well taken care of. The first song the members performed was Gamerlan-bound/ beFORe JOHN 2 (2008)- Aurel Hollo (b.1966). He went to Lexington, and the key consisted of seventy-five formed from percussion. The song was very abrupt, soft, there was a lot of pauses, and whole notes. Also, some notes rung …show more content…
The song was written in 1841. The song was a classical and rhythmic. There is a lot of tension going on. He wrote for wood sound and no pitch was consisted. Some instruments I know that were used was salt shaker, drums, maracas, and horns. The song consisted of four members and they had about three to four instruments being played. The performance had loud and soft sounds. Parts of the performance sounded dramatic such as they would play the drums loudly. Then parts of the performance sounded like a jungle and other times like a horror sound. The performance was all over the place it sounded differently than most performances because it did not stay within the same sound. The performance was well played and lasted long for about ten …show more content…
The performance to this song was great colors and sounds. Consisted of twelve members and eight of them were playing the xylophone. The rest were playing differents instruments such as the drums. It was a very slow performance with different pitches. At times it sounded like footsteps and other times like Christmas. Passionately every member played their piece throughout the performance. The sixth song was Push (2010) Stephen Gorbos (b.1978). The performance was percussion and consisted of twelve members. Some instruments used was the piano, xylophone, and the drums. The performance had different pitches and were mainly soft and dreaming sounds. At times it would accelerate with loud pitches meaning to a climax. The piece was all over the place and lasted longer than the rest approximately twelve to fifteen minutes. The seventh song was cut off the performance. In conclusion, the performance was long, but very entertaining. I enjoyed each piece because I hardly listen to that type of music. I enjoyed my time being there it was my first time experience anything like that. The songs I have never heard of, however, my favorite one would be the one that sounded like a jungle which was the third song 180(2015)-Michael Burritt(b.1962). If I would have to attend something like that again I would definitely consider it. I could now say that Percussion is my favorite

It was a small semi-professional performing group that consists of around 28 members, yet there was a wide range of instrumentation. There were 9 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos, 1 bass, 1 flute, 2 oboe, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 French horns, 2 trumpets and 1 percussion. The performers were dressed very neatly. For men, they wore black tuxedo, white shirt with bow tie and black shoes. For women, they dressed in white top with black pants or dress and black shoes.…

The concert that I chose to attend was the Gramophone award winners, Pavel Haas Quartet. Veronika Jaruskova, Marek Zxiebel, Pavel Nikl, and Peter Jarusek were the musicians. They were all very talented. Their movements were amazing and no matter the difficulty, they stayed in time with one another. The songs they chose to perform were Quartet No. 1 in B minor, Op. 50 by the composer Prokofiev, Quartet No. 11 in F minor, Op. 95 “Serioso” by Beethoven, and Quartet No. 5, Sz. 102 by Bartok. All these pieces were amazing both in difficulty and sound.…

The saxophone, violin, bass, flute, and piano all played together; however, the bass was clearly the most dominant instrument. The rhythm was a bit dissonance or staccato and consisted of a great deal of syncopation. There were also many sequences with repeated melodies. The flute played many arpeggios and trills. The next song played was one that almost everyone in the room can relate to and was titled “When the Hidden Becomes Known”. It sounded doubtful or nervous for the future. At the very beginning, there is a recitative and it sounds like the vocalist is almost talking to the audience. This piece is played at a moderate tempo and sounds very legato. There was no improvisation coming from the vocalist and she sang with a very consonance melody which one could clearly hear it move in…

The quintet consisted of Adam Heller, Kendall Fowler, Chandler Boyd, Dan Sitler, and Tim Henderson. They started off with Blue Train by the great John Coltrane. It had a steady tempo and a smooth sound. The trumpet played by Adam Heller stood out during this tune. It was a great piece that the audience enjoyed thoroughly. The next tune played by this quintet is So Dance Samba by A. C. Jobim. The piano played by Chandler Boyd starts the tune out beautifully. The drums played by Tim Henderson keep the fast beat and tempo. The sax played by Kendell Fowler played wonderfully along with the trumpet played by Adam Heller. Both of these talented musicians stood out. The trumpet took the lead for most of this piece, but the bass played by Dan Sitler and the piano still stood out at portions. This piece ended on a loud note. Their next tune is Grass Fed that was impressively created by their director Scott Routenberg in one day. This tune had a fast tempo and a happy feel. The trumpet played by Adam Heller and the sax played by Kendell Fowler stood out during most of this piece. It was a very impressive and appealing piece. I enjoyed each piece of this quintet’s…

The set starts out with every member of the band coming out on stage one at a time. Some of the instruments I recognized and was familiar with, such as the saxophone, clarinet, bass, and drums. They introduced a variety of instruments that looked either homemade or sounded strange to me, like the electric banjo, drumitar, and synthesizers. There was a bit of scat vocals done by Victor Wooten as well. One thing I noticed in this song was the repetition. I think the bass line was constant throughout the entire four minute long song. The set looked very non-Western to me, especially the rugs that were laid down in the middle of the stage. Almost the entire song had a mixed meter and…

Overall, I enjoyed my attendance at the concert choir held at Benedictine University. The show was well done and I could tell that the members of the choir worked very hard in preparation. Although there were eight songs, the concert went by fairly quick. There was only one baby grand piano in the middle of the stage, but other than that, it was interesting to see that no other instruments were used except for their own voices and they were able to project an excellent performance for the…

The orchestras played this piece to create a great closing to the concert. The conductor made a great decision to arrange this song to be at the end giving almost a sense of closure. The addition of the percussionist again helped give the piece the nice lifted feeling, as well as help the orchestra stay together; however the dynamic contrast between the four sections was rather light. The use of a snare drum drastically changed this piece, it feels more like a slow waltz. The little use of dynamics, however, kept the melody from popping out as much as it should have. In the beginning of the piece everybody played the notes with space between then; however towards the end, a few of orchestra members played the notes smoothly and connected whereas the rest of the orchestra played the notes spaced. The intonation and a steady tempo was retained throughout the performance which gave this piece a focused tone. The violins and violas did an excellent job using full bows, but the cellos needed to use long bows so they can create a deep, rich, and crisp sound. This piece made the audience feel excited and eager to hear more because many of the audience members recognized this…

    Salsa Jazz Concert Report

It’s not really the type of concert I would have typically gone to for fun but I did enjoy myself. I think the fact that it was salsa made it more interesting since I am Hispanic. I caught myself bobbing my head to the rhythm, clapping my hands, and tapping my foot in some of the performances. One of my friends was in the concert so it was nice to see him play on the drums and how he had a solo. Also another guy from my jazz class was in the concert and he played very well and it was riveting to see the way he played his solo on the sax. I don’t know if I would ever go to another jazz concert for fun but who knows maybe I would if it was a salsa one. I am glad that I got to go and see this because I probably would not have experienced this if it wasn’t because I had to. It did open up my eyes more to the world of jazz and seeing how different it is to see them playing live than from a computer or just listening to the songs. To see it all happening was fascinating. I would tell anyone that they should go some time in their life to a jazz concert, specifically a salsa one. If I out of everyone enjoyed it than anyone…

The concert was somewhat as I expected to be. The concert was so formal and organized. . Even though I had some prejudgments about the concert at first, I enjoyed listening to these pieces live. I will try to attend future classical music concerts. There were some parts where the management team could have done better. The artist demonstrated dynamics, technique, harmony and togetherness beautifully. Before leaving the concert hall I was able to speak briefly with some of the musicians, they were very helpful in answering my questions about the…

The concert I attended was North Idaho College Wind Symphony In Concert, featuring the Whitworth University Wind Symphony. It took place in the Schuler Preforming Arts Center at the North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene on March 21st. The main pieces which I will be focusing on are Aspen Jubilee, Walking Tune, and The Invincible Eagle. All of these pieces were performed by the Whitworth University Wind Symphony, whose conductor was Richard Strauch. Strauch conducted a symphony of 55 college students, and all of them played very well together. There were a few small mistakes where a note would get exceedingly high for no reason, but outside of that, it was perfection. The students played a wide variety of wind instruments including…
