Peer Pressure, Cause and Effect Peer pressure has become a big issue in our modern world. Many people experience it every day and a lot of times it leads to bad decision making. Peer pressure can affect you in the long run and knowing how to say no to certain things can sometimes save your life. There are many causes to peer pressure but the more noticeable one would be just pure excitement. Say that your peers are jumping their bikes off ramps and they ask you to try. You have always been unsure about trying semi-dangerous things and you find yourself a bit scared. You say no but your peers find the activity so exhilarating that they want you to join in on the fun. So they keep egging you on and you finally say yes. You just gave in to peer pressure. Peer pressure can come in many different ways and even if it as simple as jumping your bike off a ramp it is still peer pressure. But that’s just harmless peer pressure. There are very harmful forms of peer pressure out there caused simply by excitement. The excitement of everybody doing this certain things creates this drive in all of us to try that certain thing. Then it becomes too serious, like trying harmful drugs, it becomes dangerous. When we feel peer pressure we tend to feel embarrassed, and left out and we feel the need to fit in with the people around us. It is hard not to feel these emotions when being rejected by the people you associate yourself with. The more emotional we feel, the more likely we are to give in to peer pressure. As young adults we feel the need to impress are friends or the people we are trying to befriend. That’s why peer pressure can so easily take a hold of you and pull you in to any temptations around you. Kids who peer pressure others are probably not very disciplined at home. As a parent you need to be able to set rules for your children but be lenient so they aren’t so tempted to be rebellious. We all have been peer pressured and we all have peer
