Paul Gauguin
Who is your favorite artist? For me, it is Paul Gauguin. Especially his creation of the Tahitian group of paintings was amazing. By researching, I will simply talk about Gauguin and the Tahitian paintings. After, describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate the group of Tahitian paintings with the most representable one - “Tahitian Woman on the Beach”. Paul Gauguin, a French Post-Impressionist artist, was an important figure in Symbolist art movement of the early 1900s. He was recognized for his experimental use of colors and synthetic style that were well-known to be different from Impressionism. Also, “His use of bold colors, exaggerated body proportions and stark contrasts in his paintings set him apart from his contemporaries, helping to pave the way for the Primitivism art movement. Gauguin often sought exotic environments, and spent time living and painting in Tahiti.” (Biography.com) The Tahitian group paintings are in a same style of coloring, drawing target, and feeling. First of all, coloring is a huge similarity. Those paintings mostly use with rich colors. Gauguin always use with sharp colors, such as red, orange, green, blue etc. Secondly, he mostly draw the Tahitian in the group of paintings, especially women, children. Random and daily moments are the most occurred scene, also there are some landscapes too. Thirdly, the other similar place is the overall mood of the pieces. They convey the feelings of joyful, and reflect relaxation and happiness in Tahiti. Focusing on the “Tahitian Women on the Beach”, there are two female in the painting. They are sitting on beach, the right one is looking towards the right side and holding a bunch of grass, the left one is closing her eyes. For coloring, the girls are both wearing sharp color clothes, red, white, and pink. Also, they both have hair bows on their head, yellow and red. For analyzing, the texture of the ground is rough, the color layers and drawing tecqnics convey the texture. Also,

Impressionism was the late 19th-century art movement that sought to capture a fleeting moment, thereby conveying the elusiveness and impermanence of images and conditions (Kleiner, 2013, p. 1087). In late 1841 and the beginning 1843, the invention of paint in metal tubes was invented. This allowed the artists to transport the paints and paint out in the outdoors and paint instead of being shut off in the studio (Sayre, 2011, p. 1020). The three painter of this era that is essential to understanding this period is Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and James Whistler.…

Three women at sea shore consist of three women at seashore which is oblivious to observe. The painting displayed reverence for nature, it capture the area's brilliant light and diverse landscapes. But then you have the three women and it makes you wonder why he decided to put three and how it relates to the rest of the painting. I feel the painting show a bond between the three women of how they feel connected to the whole landscape and atmosphere. However another interpretation I got from the painting is that if we only attend to look at the women in the painting and ignore the scenery then we might be missing the important aspects of the painting which is the ocean and how the colors reflect of the sunset. The third interpretation I got from the painting is how it women were portrayed at the period of time, as a female viewer it seems a as painting towards masculine desire. When you observe closely on the two women on the right it seem like they’re sort of having some sort of engagement and the one on the left looks distant to herself. Overall the picture has a lot hidden though and very soothing craftiness with a complex…

“A Sunday on La Grande Jatte” had a style that, once I took a closer look, surprised me somewhat. The painting seems to be made with many dots. It’s very impressive that the artist took the time and had the talent to use dots in such a way. Of course, it may have been the type of brush he used, or it is a painting technique that I do not yet know, but it certainly adds to the feel of the painting. I was also curious about the border of the painting. Rather than not have a border or having a simple border, the artist inverts the colors, making the edges much more blue, gray and purple. The objects and figures in the painting seem very solid and steady, and the lines do not blur. The people the artist painted do not seem to be very happy. They are relaxed, but none of them are smiling and very few are active. It also seems that, with a few exceptions, they are all shadowed, hiding from the sun. Although the painting is peaceful, it does not have the joy that Glackens’ “Beach Scene, New London.”…

The first similarity between the two paintings is the noticeable roughness in the application of paint on both. The brush strokes are visible and everything is not perfectly smoothed as it may have been before the impressionist era. In Cezanne's painting, the brushstrokes are thick and short, applying a heavy layer of paint that can be noticed even on a picture. Gauguin's painting on the other hand, contrasts with thinly applied paint. Here, in most places the paint is smoother and forms flatter swaths of color.…

The expressionist artist whose work I admire the most is artist, Jackson Pollock. He is an outstanding artist, one of the most famous if not the most famous abstract expressionist of his time. Jackson Pollock was born on the 28th of January, in Cody, Wyoming. Pollock’s childhood was a hard one because his family was always moving, his dad was an alcoholic and he was the youngest of all four of his brothers. He discovered his passion for art when he moved to Los Angeles, California, there he attended the “Manual Arts High School” (famouspeople.com). He was later kicked out from there but his passion for art still stayed with him. He moved away from his family to move in with his brother, Charles in New York, there he began to practice and perfect his work.…

Georges Seurat’s painting of “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte -1884'” depicts tranquilize people located on the island of La Grande Jatte. Looking closer into the background there are soldiers and regular looking people in the back with one typical guy with higher class people in the foreground. It like a unanimity between social class to enjoy a sunny day on a island. Looking closely into the painting there are tiny strokes of lines creating leaves on the ground and on the tree, but also everywhere creating texture. The overlapping creates space and every person are very different from each other creating variety.…

This ‘oil on canvas’ painting shows a young girl (which represents the character of ‘the elder sister’) without shoes, sitting on a rock and holding a much younger child on her lap, with a calm, quiet and beautiful rural terrestrial landscape behind her. William Bouguereau is well known for his academic painting style in which he uses his skill and talent in painting children, showing in huge detail every expression, and mood or feeling he is trying to pass across to the viewers. The beauty of the girl and her eyes, which are looking directly at the viewer, as well as the balance composition and the positioning of the legs and arms of the children, demonstrate this fact.…
