Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Even in ancient times, people have found ways to make their lives easier through technology. Centuries before, humans have created the foundation of modern technological advances by creating the simplest machines, such as the wheel and the ladder. Using human intelligence and innovation, we have created a world full of possibilities. Over time, we have created technological masterpieces that have even expanded into the kingdom of biology and astronomy. Scientists are now finding ways to create organs and mount explorations on celestial bodies, even to other galaxies. We have found ways to harness energy without harming the environment. Now, we have made our lives so much easier and much more efficient than all those years before. With our help, technology has made countless innovations. People are more and more embracing new technologies that have various uses in their daily lives. We are now able to do anything with just the right device and the proper knowledge of how to use it. Within the past two centuries, our technological advances have grown exponentially, as Andy Grode of Intel predicted. We started by creating vehicles and simple computers and eventually creating touch screen devices and rockets that travel into outer space. It is simply astounding to see how far we've come. At the turn of the 21st century, we have created gadgets that are much more suited to the modern world. Portable laptops, mobile phones and other devices have aided us with adapting to the urbanization of the world.
Cellular phones allow us to communicate and keep in touch with people from all over the world. With just a few clicks, anyone would be able to contact anyone else who wishes to communicate with each other. Some cellular phones nowadays even allow us to use the Internet and go to websites that broaden the perspective of the world. The Internet makes more things possible. Unlike cellular phones which require a telecommunication balance (or load) to be able to get in touch with that certain someone, the internet can help you search for anyone, anywhere at anytime. You can also search for things like books, clothes and other needs with just a click. It is extremely convenient, especially in the fastpaced world we live in today. The system we intend to develop makes use of these two revolutionary devices. Although some developers have already combined the two on certain aims, we shall create another program that will use both devices in their optimum potential. In the past, it was very difficult to pass information to other people. We had to make use of messengers and letters. It was also rather expensive since the messengers had to be paid. Now, thanks to the innovation of telecommunications, the use of internet and cellular phones made it all easier and affordable. Like any other type of information, people who are missing and are eventually found also need to be gathered and disseminated, the more people who know out about it, the greater the possibility of successfully locating the missing and found person. This program will help people around the world, especially those people who have missing family members or friends, whether local or overseas. Students, teachers, workers, families and, in general, society will benefit from
this system because it is not centered to only those who have wealth or connections, ergo this system can be used by people from different walks of life. Using this system, there is no need to waste paper or any other printing material needed in the typical way of posting notices of missing and found person, like posters and tarpaulins. Through the Internet and mobile texting, it will be far more convenient for not only in the modern lifestyle but also because...
