What Patriotism Means to Me
Patriotism means to love and fight for your country. Just like our heroic forefathers I think we should pursue the same dream. Many role models had patriotism. For example, Patrick Henry was famous for the quote “Give me liberty or give me death”. He meant that he would risk his life for the freedom of his country. To me I think patriotism means not only being willing to fight for our country, but trying to change it. Like Martin Luther King, Jr who had one of the biggest impacts in the U.S. He led the movement against segregation in the U.S. This is one of the greatest role models that show true patriotism. To me patriotism means not only to fight for the freedom of our country, but the freedom of mankind. Remember back to when the slaves were treated like a rock. Forced to work in the plantations under the blazing sun. Abraham Lincoln brought the freedom the slaves needed. It was true that you could take money off the slave’s labor, but Abraham made sure that they were freed. This shows us what patriotism looks like. Patriotism is a special bond that brings us together to stand up for our country. George Washington helped the militia fight for their freedom. They faced the British soldiers that were the only well trained soldiers. They withstood the brute force of the British. Without George Washington’s leadership we would never have gotten our independence. This is a role model that showed not only patriotism, but perseverance. Now let’s all stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance. That means that we shall respect and honor those who fought in the war to protect our country. Those words should remain that way because we are loyal to those heroic people! Without their patriotism this country might have fallen under the control of the Taliban or Iraq.
