Part-Time Assistant Workload
It has been brought to my attention that the workload of the two assistants assigned to me (Jack Snyder and Ruth Disselkoen), has become unbalanced due to the sick leave of Jessica Hilo. Ruth has been cutting her breaks short and working overtime at least twice a month, while Jack comes in late and takes longer breaks, yet is still able to complete his work. Also, Frank Daley has complained about the quality of Ruth’s work in the past few weeks. I have also been informed that Frank and Samuel only have a part-time assistant, while Ralph and Jessica have a full-time assistant. I believe this to be more of an issue than the fact that Jessica is out. While Frank has to take on some of Jessica’s workload and his assistant only works

The main problem is that nurse staffing ration is affecting patient's safety. Since there is no Nurse Technicians and not enough nurses, there is so much to do and not enough resources to help me. One of my patients is complaining of severe abdominal pain and the physician is angry with me because I wasn't able to bring the equipment to her. One of the actions I would do speak to the physician and explain to her that charge nurse is currently taking care of a serious patient. In addition, I will let her know that a patient who just had surgery is experiencing severe pain and I need to check on him first. The physician needs to understand that there are not enough nurses on this shift. I will also tell her that I will help her after I check…

At that point, Janet had already received her first Letter of Warning for overutilizating the benefit in January 2004, and by March of that year, she had received two Letters of Repriment for the same reason. Nevertheless, not having any extended family around, she had no choices other than taking care of her daughter herself. In hopes of being able to count with a more sympathetic supervisor, Janet got voluntarily transferred to another division of that Department in May 2004. Even though supervisors state they respect that people have outside obligation, an employee’s personal lives are only considered when it does not interfere with the operations of the Billings 911 Center. Staffing levels have to be maintained even if employees are sick or have other events that require time away from work. Several times a week employees are forced to take overtime to cover for absences. It is a standing rule for both male and female dispatchers that if coverage is needed for an absence, the vacated shift will be split between someone from the previous shift and someone from the subsequent shift. Usually junior employees find it difficult to make family plans for fear of getting forced overtime that will interfere with their personal lives. If someone from the subsequent shift does not show up four hours early then the employee covering the other half of the vacated shift will get stuck on a 16-hour shift. Pressure from other employees to show up for your forced overtime is high. Employees quickly learn that work comes first when it comes to covering absences or else face the wrath management or other staff…

Concern!!!! Many assistants voices has been heard, but that's all. We are starting to feel as if there is no one we can go to when we have problems our only reasonable option is to find another job. If this rate continues I feel that there will more Assistants leaving 8th floor new and old employees. As a assistants I see and feel that we are look down on and there is no respect given to us by 80% of the nurses and supervisors. Now hearing from new assistance who have came and left very quickly the reason was because of the nurses attitudes and lack of team work from them. I'm not saying we all are perfect as assistants but most have stop caring because they feel that they are not appreciated as a human or a co-worker. I have seen, heard,…
