When people get desperate they do desperate things. For example, if you’re in some trouble and running out of time, you're probably trying every way possible to get out of the situation, and sometimes involve death. In Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare portrays them as innocent people conflicted with their family life and their love for one another . In the story there are many people to blame for the two lover’s death, but the main three I believe are to blame are, Capulet, Paris and especially the nurse. Capulet Is to blame for their death because, when his daughter, Juliet, tells Capulet that she has no interest in marrying Paris, he should have accepted Juliet's decision.…

The events in Romeo and Juliet are very clearly compelled by fate. Undoubtedly, Lord Capulet tells his beloved daughter that she needs to marry Paris or he will disown her. Fate came into play in this situation because Juliet is already married to Romeo and if she were to marry Paris, she would break her vows with Romeo, the love of her life. Juliet then gets advice from Friar Laurence and says, “Tell me not friar, that thou hearest of this,/ Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it./ If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help,/ Do thou but call my resolution wise,/ And with this knife I’ll help it presently” (IV.i.50-54). Juliet is pleading to Friar Laurence for his help in the situation. She needs to find a way to avoid the upcoming marriage in hopes of being happy and with Romeo. Romeo helps the Capulet servant read the list of people invited to the party that night and is then asked to attend. Benvolio persuades Romeo into going to compare Rosaline to…

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” (from a headstone in Ireland). When people die their loved ones often face depression and mourn for a long time especially if that loved one is someone you raised and watched grow up over the years. Sometimes individuals like to blame people for their loved ones death when in actuality there could be just more than one person to blame or no one at all. The death of Romeo and Juliet in William Shakespeare’s play is very unfortunate. Although a lot of things could have been done to avoid their suicides, these “star-crossed lovers” are not able to avoid their future. A series of unfortunate circumstances result in catastrophe, and even though many people could be…

Hopeless. Desperate. Tragic. “Romeo and Juliet”, a story written by William Shakespeare, is about two teenagers, Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, falling in love but ended in one of them dying because they couldn’t have the other. They were influenced by many external forces that caused the tragedy, like accidentally falling in love at a ball, being forced to marry someone they did not want to marry, and because the two families didn’t agree with each other.…

Romeo does not get the message that Juliet isn’t really dead, so he goes there to kill himself by her side to control their fate. On the way to the tomb where Juliet was resting, Shakespeare writes, “O, I am slain! If thou be merciful, Open the tomb; lay me with Juliet. He dies” (III.iv.72-73). Romeo kills Paris to get to Juliet. He only did this because he wanted to be with “dead” Juliet and to control the love he had for her. After killing him he felt bad and put Paris in the tomb with Juliet to show respect and to honor his dying wish. By Hamlet doing this Paris was closer to the person he loved and cared about. Another case of controlled love is when the text reads, “This is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die. She takes Romeo’s dagger, stabs herself, and dies” (Shakespeare V.iii.120-121). After Juliet sees that Romeo has killed himself to be with her in the afterlife she does the same and by doing so stay together forever. This quote is pretty interesting because of the metaphor used and how she compared her body to the sheath (the holder for the knife). Both Romeo and Juliet tried to control their love without killing, but their plan did not work and the next best option for them was death. Out of the three pieces of literature Romeo and Juliet is the king of controlling…

In the first place, Juliet’s father, Lord Capulet, tries to force his daughter to marry a royal family member, Count Paris, however, Juliet does not have any interest in marrying Paris, so she refuses to follow her father’s plans. Shakespeare expresses Lord Capulet’s desires for his daughter’s marriage by “but fettle your fine joints ‘gainst Thursday next to go with Paris to Saint Peter’s church, or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither” (3.5.152-155). A start for a good marriage begins with two people who truly love each other. While Juliet does love someone, it is not Count Paris. Lord Capulet sees that Paris is a part of the royal family, so he wanted to get the benefits of being legally related to royalty. The negative aspect of going against the tradition of arranged marriage can be viewed as, “a matter of direct rebellion against the authority of her father. The play thus focuses on a growing cultural conflict…
