Painting Analysis: Pamela Munger's Sonoran Summer
Every morning when I walk by my family's dining room, I see a beautiful painting. It has many colors that all work so well together. There is a mix of pink, green, blue, red, and orange. It is an abstract art piece. The artist of the painting is named Pamela Munger. She was an English teacher who showed her creativity while teaching. Being a teacher grew her passion for art, so she began to start painting. She mainly uses acrylic paint. She also uses brushes and palette knives. Pamela and her husband own Misty Mountain Hop Farm and she paints full-time (Pamela). The art piece in my dining room is titled “Sonoran Summer.” The size of the painting is 37x37. The article Wild Apple stated, “Pamela Munger grew up in southern California and now calls …show more content…
“Painting is a lifeline, combining creativity, solitude, and limitless possibilities. I’m all about experimenting with paint, surfaces, and subject matter. I like to keep it simple, avoiding detail and not giving away the whole story” (Pamela). I love how the painting is full of color and goes so well together. I like how much space is taken up and how at the top of the painting there is a lot of space. Also, if you look very closely at the painting, you can see some brush strokes that the painter made. I like that because the viewer can see how thick the paint is and how you move onto the canvas. Lastly, I like how there is light around the top of the painting. I love how the artist used different colors and shades. This art piece goes very well in my family's dining room, in my opinion. My dining room has white walls, a wood table that is a lighter shade, and white cabinets that hold little detailed plates. The room needed a pop of color, and the painting by Pamela was the perfect fit. The painting isn’t distracting, so it doesn’t take over the room in any way. I love how simple it is! The viewer can see the painting in many different ways because it is not that

The pose of the subject just oozes professionality. She has great posture, and holds herself with a stance of authority. Though she is facing slightly to the left. She appears as a very formal lady. The subject has a neutral expression, though she is slightly frowning. Her gaze at first glance is hard and looks straight at the painter, but as you continue to look, you see the softness in her eyes. The colour is exaggerated in the face. Even though her face is more colourful than real life, the shades of colours…

As one moves further away from the “Table” towards the background in the right corn you’d notice a dark hallway which doesn’t mean much but the shading on it is just amazing to me. The ability to cast a shadow from the wall of the lighted area onto the wall that leads away from the picture is an amazing detail to capture. Elizabeth’s shading technique/ skill is outstanding.…

This painting is by Ellen Plankey, it is untitled and a pastel. For the purposes of this paper, I’ll call it “Young Girl on Blanket”. This is a picture of a young woman sitting on what appears to be a blanket. She’s looking off to her right and is wearing a dark blue skirt and a baby blue cloth around her head as a wrap. She’s topless, but how it’s shadowed only one of her breasts is very prominent; the other blurred by shadow. She’s surrounded by plants, all of which are leafy bushes. The sky in the back peeking through the leaves is a pale orange, almost a faded salmon color. The shadows on her body are splotched from the openings between the leaves. All of which is very soft. “Young Girl on Blanket” uses intermediate colors; soft shades of pink, blue, green and orange. All of the lines are curved in this, even the blankets edge ripples over what appears to be grass, which rounds the edge of it so that it doesn’t seem like a rectangle but instead a boxy oval. The girl’s body is curvy, not overly so, just enough so that her femininity shines through. Also, the only lines that are solid are the outline of her and her…

The mood of this painting is created by, in my opinion, a thought-provoking combination. Although glazing and wet into wet is compatible couple of techniques, the usage of them in this particular painting are so visually diverse. The soft edged light pastel colors established by the wet into wet technique gives a soft and hazy mood. In contrast, the glazing technique uses bolder color with hard edge horizontal and vertical shapes, which creates an energetic mood. McCullough did an excellent job of using tone and edges to create a mood of morning at the beach.…

The lines in this work of art are of a large variety. On the right side of the painting a lot of the objects are horizontal. The woman though is sitting up vertically, along with the flame. There are a few diagonal lines also, for example; the position of the woman’s head, one of her legs, and her arm resting on the skull. Everything in this painting is realistic and the shapes are organic. The texture in this painting is two-dimensional. Almost all of the objects seem to be smooth, for example; the books, the wall, the table, the woman’s skin and dress, and so on. Warm colors are used in this painting. The value in this shows the lightest point being the center and from that going outward, it gets darker.…

Howard works in very thick layers. She separates colours and leaves crisp definition between each stroke. Here it seems as though she has used a tool such as a knife or card, and has dragged the paint across the page. She has also picked out undertones such as purples, greens and oranges and has intensified these colours and made them really stand out. She manages to do this without overpowering the reflections and water like look.…

Last Saturday, on February 17th, as I took care of my little brother while my parents when out on a date. I decided to visit a place called “Color Me Mine” studio on Sunset Place Mall; located at: 5701 Sunset Drive. A place not only for kids to have fun, but for the entire family as well. It brings out the creative side of you, while the instructors guide you all the way. It is a place where you choose your canvas or porcelain to paint it using your creativity. If you attend in a group of minimum 6 people, the painter will walk you through brushstroke by brushstroke how to make a fabulous painting. If you go in a smaller group of 1-4 people, you go in and choose your own table. After a couple of minutes, you will be instructed on what brushstrokes…

The bright vivid colors attracted me to this work; I found it interesting how the artist played off of mostly reds and blues and I liked how my attention was immediately drawn to the center of the painting. All of the people seemed to be involved in the miraculous birth of the Jesus. The greatest aesthetic strength of this painting is its use of vivid color, the aesthetic weakness I found was the lack of the artistic use of shadow. I…

I went to the North Carolina Museum of Art on April 8th, a beautiful and sunny day. Being around the museum conjured a sense of nostalgia to my middle school days when I took a field trip to the museum. Since that last visit I have gained a better understanding about art and what goes into every piece of work. I have also gained more experience, back then I did not know how to shade properly and did not know a thing about composition. Now, I have a greater appreciation for every stroke of a brush and color applied. The reason I chose the North Carolina Museum of Art was solely to re-experience the art with my new artistic eye. While walking through the museum, I searched for that one piece of art that would catch my eye and inspire me to talk…

The painting is composed of three main elements, namely the featured objects (eggs, pan, pitcher), the wooden shelf on which they are resting, and the dark background which we can assume to be a darkly painted wall. The composition is very traditional for a still life painting, as we have the foreground consuming most of the space within…
