PACU Reflection
This was my second day in the PACU and my personal objectives for the day were to have access to the Pyxis, administer IV medications and IV management. As soon as I got to the floor, I was able to activate my account to have access to Pyxis. It made a big difference to do it myself than watching my nurse for the most part. In PACU there is a lot of pain medication administration so I was able to use the Pyxis many times during my shift. I felt more comfortable doing the process.
IV administration is one of my biggest goals because I did not have many opportunities during my clinical rotations. I am really pleased that today I was able to administer IV medications, many times during my shift. My nurse challenges me a lot, asking me questions

Though I subsequently lightened my course load, I occupied the remainder of my time devoting myself to various volunteer opportunities with diverse client populations. I believe familiarity with the hands on aspect of nursing is as essential as my education. I maintained my grades while balancing multiple volunteer opportunities to gain priceless experience caring for individuals with varying demands. Upon admission to UBCO, I will embrace the opportunity to start a full time course load while continuing the compassion and empathy I learned.…

    TUVA Reflection

I see TUVA, hopefully, to further increase its presence in New Orleans and at Tulane. I understand TUVA is a small club; however, I believe the events the club participates in throughout the year create a community and family that I wish all members could experience. In terms of New Orleans, I strongly believe that TUVA has an obligation to the members and other VSA to participate in events, especially in GC events, regardless of time conditions or stress. TUVA is not well-known, and not participating almost shows an apathy to be apart of the VSA community in New Orleans. On the other hand, for Tulane, I remember during Date Auction I invited my friends to come watch, and they told me how awesome it was to get off campus for a little and enter…

A Pyxis Supply Station is a large capital purchase, however the benefits of this purchase strongly outweigh the cost. A Pyxis Supply Station is a large automated dispensing machine for patient supplies, much like a medication dispensing machine. Purchasing enough supply towers for each unit in the hospital will be expensive, but will improve productivity, help boost revenue, and will be more efficient than the current bar code sticker method currently in place. The current method is ineffective, inconsistent, and revenue is being lost on patient…

I have chosen this as my first clinical placement is on a surgical unit, where Intravenous therapy is a widely used to administer medication. A year and two pre-pharmacy semesters after my injury, I returned to a hospital, this time as a volunteer. Though no pharmacy positions were available, I volunteered close to 100 hours in Hartford Hospital's Surgical Family Lounge. My task involved communicating with physicians and nurses to provide updates for families regarding the status of their loved ones. My time at the hospital grew to be a fruitful learning experience about teamwork. The numerous tasks and busy environment of the hospital made it imperative to work well with staff. During one chaotic summer day, joint effort with one additional volunteer substantially improved the efficiency of the whole process. With time I expanded my communication skills as well, as I mastered the ability to relay messages. I had to translate complex medical terminology into layman terms for the families. This allowed me to develop communication skills and expand upon my medical vocabulary, which would unquestionably prove useful in pharmacy. While I have improved my teamwork and communication abilities in the hospital, I look forward to the opportunity for further development of these and other valuable skills throughout pharmacy school.…

I am a Registered Nurse who works on the IV team and provides venous access for patients during the hours of 7pm to 7am at the only hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky. We are an extremely busy organization who has a bed limitation of 300. Keeping the patients safe and to do no harm is a promise we all strive for (Clancey, 2011). By giving medications in a timely manner is a way of providing safety. Patients expect quality care and this nurse wants to provide the best treatment in the most efficient and efficient manner. Regrettably, there is an area of decreased productivity which is causing a delay in intravenous medications. Patients who we consider "frequent flyers" or who have long-standing medical issues such as diabetes, pancreatitis, renal failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or heart disease tend to have many readmissions. Grievously, this means these patients likely have poor intravenous access. If I am not…
