The field theory (Lewin, 2008), is the best approach to understand the potency forces that motivated the separation of California. It is important to recognize the situation of people and environment as a whole in order to overview the driving forces and comprehend the barriers that Oxy faced to implement the mentioned change. Senior management foresaw the future of the company as a two separate companies by allocating the experienced personal and focusing in the area of expertise by building trust and commitment as a crucial adaptation for change (Mullins 2010).
Oxy was founded in 1920 in California and the growth in oil & gas was mainly to the operations in California and internationally, for this reason the idea of moving out of California
