Osmosis Experiment With Naked Egg
Are naked eggs, eggs with no shell? What? You may think I am speaking about a hard boiled egg, but, no. Boiled eggs have their centers heated making the shell easily come off. Naked eggs have their shells taken off with one simple ingredient everyone has: vinegar. The acetic acid inside the vinegar strips the shell, calcium carbonate, away from the egg, the chemical formula is: CaCO3 (s) + 2 HC2H3O2 (aq)→Ca(C2H3O2)2 (aq) + H2O (l) + CO2 (g) (Imagination Toledo, 2017) Once the egg has been separated from its shell, the only thing keeping the liquid goo inside is the thin, flexible, semipermeable membrane. What would happen to naked eggs if they were submerged in different solutions? Before diving into the experiment it is helpful to understand a few terms we will use along the way. Osmosis is the movement of a solvent (as water) through a semipermeable …show more content…

The lid was three centimeters so the container with the lid was fifteen centimeters. What I did was I took some fluff out of the jar. Then I placed the egg inside the container with some fluff. After that I put the egg in the fluff and put the other fluff on top of it and buried the egg in fluff. I knew that if I got the egg to stay in motion it would never be in motion. When I dropped the container the fluff protected the egg like walls. The egg did not break because the fluff acted as a block to when the container hits the ground. The fluff was pushing against the egg so the egg wouldn’t bounce around in the container and hit the walls. I dropped the egg right…

Procedure: The procedure to make the device was as simple as cutting two bottles in half so that you may then stretch the balloon over the opening that you have created. This is where the egg will rest during the fall. Measuring the device we placed it on a scale to see exactly what its weight was, which turned out to be 76.5Kg. The dimensions of the structure were measured with a ruler using the centimeter side. The dimensions came out to be 9cm x 9cm x 24.5cm. Just below the maximum height. Testing the fall, we took the egg and the structure over to the rotunda to drop it from about 5.3 meters. You would then be judged on how or if the egg survives the fall and given a score that fits well.…

Throughout the six days of recording data, osmosis did occur. We soaked our egg (Eggar) in “Super Chill Peach Sparkling Water.” Eggar gain weight as he grew larger. He soaked up the water when he was in the sparkling water, so he could have an equilibrium. He was squishy, smooth, and (slightly) transparent too. On the last day Eggar was soaked in water, and he then lost weight. When we took him out of the water we noticed we had an air bubble inside of him. The liquid started with a higher water content, then due to osmosis, they had an equilibrium. The reason he must have lost weight when in water is Eggar had a higher water…

For my egg drop project I made a contraption with a garbage bag, yarn, cardboard, Popsicle sticks, and hot glue. First I cut a medium sized square out of cardboard. Then I stuck Popsicle sticks in the shape of a square with three sticks on each side. After that the sticks were hot glued to the card board from top and bottom. And in order for the egg to be seen from the bottom I had to cut a circular hole into the bottom of the piece of cardboard.…
