CASE I

A DIAMOND PERSONALITY

1.What factors do you think attributed to Suraj bhai’s success? Was he merely in the right place at the right time’’, or are there characteristics about him that contribute to his success?

Ans: An entrepreneur is an individual who owns affirm, business, or venture, and is responsible for its development.

Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting anew business or reviving an existing business, in order to capitalize on new found opportunities.

The factors that contributed to Suraj bhai’s success are his personal values like a)Suraj being an entrepreneur and an optimistic individual. b)Hardworking: He had determination to work hardworking at a local jewelry store, Suraj gained knowledge of diamonds and used that information to open his own business acting as a connection point between buyers and sellers over the internet. c)Self Belief: These are established perception about the attitude object. What you believe to be true. d)Intention to learn: Suraj bhai has intention to keep on learning. This was the biggest factor in his success. He worked hard for receiving his Diamond & Diamond grading certification from Gemological Institute. He also learned English Language to overcome communication hurdles. e)Clarity in goal: Suraj Bhai’s goal was very clear.

f)Along with all the characteristics Suraj possesses, Suraj was also in the right place at the right time. A girlfriend of Suraj roommate suggested that Suraj go to work at a local jewelry store. This is where Suraj`s knowledge of diamonds started and since Suraj (according to individuals who know him) is ambitious and never gives up on anything, Suraj was able to follow his dream and work harder at achieving it.

2.How do you believe Suraj bhai would score on the Big Five dimensions of personality (extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, openness to experience)? Which ones would he score high on? Which ones might he score low on?

Ans: For decades, personality researchers have sought to measure how much an individual’s personality contributes to his or her achievement of success.

The “big five” factors are broad and consist of a range of more specific traits, however, these five dimensions are usually described as follows:

a)Extraversion: This trait includes characteristics such assertiveness, excitability, sociability, talkativeness, and high amounts of emotional expressiveness. b)Agreeableness: This trait includes characteristics such as trust, kindness, affection, and altruism. c)Conscientiousness: This dimension includes high levels of thoughtfulness, organization, attention to details, good impulse control, and goal directed behaviors. d)Neuroticism: This label is often reversed and called Emotional Stability. Individuals high in this trait tend to experience sadness, anxiety, irritability, moodiness, and emotional instability. e)Openness to Experience: This personality dimension features characteristics such as imagination and insight, and individuals high in this trait tend to have a broad range of interests. Although these dimensions represent broad areas of personality, case study has demonstrated these groupings of characteristics tend to occur together in suraj.

Agreeableness: Low (Non-submissive)
Conscientiousness: Medium
Emotional Stability: High
Openness to experience: High (when he went to chase his dreams and become an entrepreneur)

3.Do you believe that Suraj bhai is high or low on core self-evaluations? On what information did you base your decision?

Ans: In order to become lifelong learners, people need to learn the importance of self-evaluation. When people evaluate themselves, they are assessing what they know, do not know, and what they would like to know. They begin to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses....
