Oreste Fulminante's Trial Case Study

Oreste Fulminante (the defendant) left Arizona, after law officials suspected him in the murder of his stepdaughter, Jeneane Mitchell Hunt. While in New York he was taken into custody for an unrelated crime consequently sending him to federal prison. During his incarceration, he befriended Anthony Sarivola, who worked as a paid FBI informant on other inmates while he served his prison term. Upon hearing of the suspicion of whether Fulminante murdered his step daughter FBI told Sarivola to obtain further information in hopes of a confession, at first Fulminante denied he was involved. In light of the inmates treating him harshly due to the rumors of the defendant molesting and killing a child, Sarivola offered protection to the defendant granted that he reveal the murder in full detail. When released six months later, the defendant additionally confessed to the same crime to Sarivola’s wife, whom he had never met before, as they drove him to Pennsylvania. Concluding an indictment in Arizona for first-degree murder.
