Orange Juice: An Innocent Orangutan Martel's Life Of Pi
Orange Juice, an innocent orangutan surrounded by corruption. She wanted to find her kids, she was not meant for the environment that she arrived in, which is why she had to die. When first read, the death can look pointless and a mistake, but there is a purpose.

Orange Juice represented the innocence that Pi had when he came onto the boat. This innocence would have ended in his death. When Pi was first placed on the boat, he made the choice to save Richard Parker. Soon he realized that he had allowed one of the most dangerous animals in the world to cohabit with him. He tries to get rid of him many times after that but never does. In a way, Pi needed to shed himself of his innocence, to survive his long arduous battle. Pi needed to embrace

On March 2, 1991 a high speed police chased turned into a brutal police beating of the intoxicated Rodney King. Rodney King was driving down the 210 freeway at 12:30 AM when Tim and Melanie Singer spotted him. They pursude him at speeds of up to 117 miles per hour. King eventually went up a ramp and stopped at the intersection of Osbourne and Foothill Boulevard, where three more cop cars that were holding Laurence Powell, Timothy Wind, Theodore Briseno, Rolando Solano, and Sergeant Stacy Koon, showed up along with a police helicopter. Singer got out of her car and ordered the suspects to get down on the ground, where Allen and Helms did as they were told who were with him in the vehicle, King did not. She told him again and he finally got out but not before he "grabbed his right buttock with his right hand and shook it" at Singer, as she recalls. Melanie Singer had her gun drawn and was going to arrest him when Sergeant Koon told her to stand back because they could handle…

There is a certain method humans deal with stress-inducing situations. Pi created a fictitious mask that saw the horrendous acts of man in a better light in order to carry on with his day-to-day life. A cover-up of good faith to preserve the bits of good humanity that left in Pi’s life. In Pi’s alternate story, the one without the animals, there was a malevolent chef that operated in unconventional ways. The chef was pure evil, murdering a Chinese sailor to settle his hunger. These violent actions are parallel to the work of the hyena in Pi’s main story, the one with animals. The hyena eventually ate and killed the zebra, a fellow animal, for its hunger got the better of him. For the hyena, indigestion of one’s own species does not invokes…

The story Ori and the Blind forest is about a little animal named ori who becomes orphaned after a colossal storm, and has to go on to restore balance in nature. This story is extremely transcendental because it is down to earth, everybody has a purpose, and you give even after death. During this game Ori and Naru (Naru is the mother) live off of what is given to them. This consists of the woods, and the food that grows there. In the game it is all about respecting nature, and having that balance in life. In addition, when Ori and Naru go do their gathering of food, or wood for bridges they both have purpose. When Naru dies Ori has nothing, and becomes depressed. Although ori then figures out that even a small creature like her can have…

At first Pi was telling Richard Parker to get to the boat which could easily be himself telling himself to get to the boat, when he has trouble reaching it he feels the need to give up and just when he was done with trying he is pulled up onto the life boat. After all how could have the tiger jumped onto the boat. The zebra represents a pattern mainly white and black which a sailor could easily represent. The sailor could have been dressed in white and the blood could have been represented by the black. Going on, once the hyena killed the monkey, the Bengal tiger then killed the Hyena. This could have been Pi enraging when the cook killed his mother. Once Pi killed the cook he was completely gone. I feel that Pi was just visioning a tiger and that is why the tiger never harmed him and rarely interacted with him. When Pi found the island I felt that he was simply not ready for real life and so he was drastically scared and so he thought he saw dead fish on the island, which caused him to only explore during the day. The island was considered toxic but no where on this planet has ever been recorded to have found an island so toxic and this 'island' was also never…

For my assignment I choose to talking about a painting called “Self Portrait with Monkey and Parrot” which was painted by Frida Kahlo. The subject matter of this painting is a selfie of a Mexican women with her pet monkey and parrot. On the picture viewers can see that the monkey is one the left and the parrot is located on the right which also assumes to be sitting on the woman’s shoulder, but also the unibrow is the first thing that is noticeable when someone sees because of how dark and thick they are. I think this artwork is representational, because of how real it looks. Including the colors that were used and the details the painting looks real. The plants in the background also look real because of the details in the leaves. With the animals viewers can see how…

Throughout english literature many topics have been discussed, from the typical “good v.s. evil” concept, to the more interesting and compelling ideas such as the thoughts of the insane. These are the stories that really grab the attention of the reader and leave them questioning what they may or amy not believe about certain ideas. Strong stories like these are the ones that make true impressions. Stories are often over dramatized with their characters and the abilities that they posses. Most books have the childish theme of “good guy beats bad guy” but some times a story can tackle much more adult, darker and thought-provoking, and contradictory of topics, such as the value of human life. Both “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell and “The Child by Tiger” by Thomas Wolfe have similar but unique themes of darkness and death, as well as similar conflicts and although the characters are fictional the ideas couldn’t be more real.…

During Pi’s perilous lifeboat journey, he faced unfathomable survival decisions. Therefore, Pi created a menagerie for his emotional traumas in an effort to erase the unspeakable cruelty and violence he witnessed through various animal characters. In the book Life of Pi, Pi utilizes Richard Parker a symbol for his actions. To Begin with, both Richard Parker symbolizes Pi’s erratic and irrational behavior. After the sinking of the Tsimtsum, Richard Parker had an inconsistent set of actions. Richard Parker regularly attacked and ate available meat yet declined to attack Pi when given the opportunity. Similarly, Pi had erratic and inconsistent behavior. Pi can not consistently follow one form of organized religion, so he chooses to be a practicing…

A woman once said, “There is no life without color.” This is just the case with the main character of “The Life of Pi”, Pi Patel. Pi is a cast away on a lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a tiger, an orangutan, a hyena and a zebra. There is one color that was mentioned multiple times throughout the story, the color orange. In the novel “Life of Pi” by Yann Martel, this color is used as a symbol for hope and survival.…

    The Zoo Story

Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story” is a one act play that shows what alienation and loneliness can drive a man to do. It is a unique story in the sense that you almost feel as though you are reading in on a social experiment. I consider it is an experiment because of how the reactions between the two characters Peter and Jerry lead up to an intense and life affecting climax between the two. The idea of The Zoo Story is about a middle class man with a wife and two daughters named peter who you can say is quite receptive to what life has given him so far. However, you also have a man named jerry who is just about the opposite. Jerry is unfortunately friendless and not to happy with what life has brought to his plate. One day these two characters have a date with destiny on a New York City park bench. As Peter is minding to himself Jerry comes along and tries to befriend him. The socialization between the two doesn’t go as planned for Jerry. Nevertheless, Jerry walked into that conversation with another plan. It was one that included his own death. Eventually, it ends up into a confrontation between the two where Jerry is punching thus forcing Peter into defending himself. Jerry then pulls out a knife and tosses it towards Peter forcing his hand. In self defense, Peter picks up the knife and holds it up which then leads to Jerry charging towards the knife and thus murdering himself. Peter reactively says “Oh my God” whereas then with Jerry’s last breath he says “Oh…My...God is a combination of scornful mimicry and supplication”. His last words give you an insight on what this novels idea could be.…

    Adventure in the Jungle

A tropical jungle is an awesome place. I had the opportunity of visiting one recently. My friend Rahim, who works as a forest ranger, took me along on one of his trips into the jungle. I had wanted to experience for myself first-hand what he had always spoken about. The moment we entered the jungle, a sort of semi-darkness enveloped us. The sky was almost completely shut out by the canopy of leaves high above us. At ground level, thick vegetation grew in every direction. The air was damp and had a peculiar smell to it.All around us were the sounds of insects, birds and animals. Though we could not see them, except for some birds, we knew they were there. The sounds echoed all over, making the jungle feel eerie and strange.I had no idea how Rahim could find a way through the bushes and trees. He said he was just following a path used by the aborigines. As far as I was concerned, I could not see any path. I realised then how easily an inexperienced person could get lost and perish in the jungle.Nevertheless I followed Rahim as we trudged along slowly. The most uncomfortable thing about being in the jungle were the leeches. These little bloodsuckers never gave up. Despite thick boots and clothes, they still managed to bite me.For the first time in my life I saw strange birds, insects, huge spiders, snakes, trees, flowers, vines as thick as a man's hand and various animals. The experience was unforgettable. I was awestruck by the might of nature. When we emerged from the jungle I felt as though a great weight had been lifted from me. The clear blue sky was a welcome sight. Outside, the world was definitely easier to cope with. The jungle made me feel hemmed in and helpless. It was a good experience but I would prefer to remain outside it.…
