Operations Management in Frito-Lay
Frito-Lay, Inc. is the division of PepsiCo that manufactures, markets and sells corn chips, potato chips and other snack foods. They produced Fritos corn chips, Cheetos cheese-flavored snacks, Doritos and Tostitos tortilla chips, Lay's potato chips, Rold Gold pretzels, Ruffles potato chips and Walkers potato crisps.
Through Frito-Lay, PepsiCo is the largest globally distributed snack food company in the world, with sales of its products in 2009 comprising 40 percent of all "savory snacks" sold in the United States and 30 percent of the non-U.S. market. Frito-Lay North America accounts for 31 percent of PepsiCo's annual sales.
As of 2010, Frito-Lay operates production plants, distribution centers and regional offices in more than 40 countries, with its Frito-Lay North America headquarters residing in Plano, Texas. Within North America, Frito-Lay owns (and in some cases, leases) approximately 1,830 distribution centers, warehouses and offices. The division also maintains 55 production plants. They have introduced about ten processes. These ten processes are design of goods and services, quality, process strategy, location, layout, human resources, supply chain management, inventory, scheduling, maintenance. In my own opinion, each of the process is OM techniques, because each process has to make sure everything is right , there aren’t too many mistakes when all the processes are working. So the ten processes are all using in OM techniques. The relation between the video and the course, if the company make each process with the OM techniques, it can realize the company goal, and also make good use of the resources. Costumer and in need of market will be sufficed if each producing process work in the an rigorous organizing, planning, controlling, producing. So learning how to make the good OM techniques will be the most important for the course if we have our own company or being the manger of the company.
