One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Movie Analysis
Mcmurphy breaking the picture window was a turning point in the story. The picture window was a prized possession of Nurse Ratched. It was the difference between her and the patients. She was on one side of the window while the patients were on the more unfortunate side. In a therapy session, R.P breaks the window, in the movie and in the novel, to get cigarettes. The glass breaking wasn't only a turning point in the story, but also for Mcmurphy. McMurphy became a larger than life character to the patients. In the novel, Mcmurphy slides his hand into the glass and grabs the cigarettes because the big nurse takes the tub room away. The movie version of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is much different than the novel. In the movie, Mcmurphy

McMurphy- McMurphy is outgoing, a leader and a rebel. There was a constant power struggle in the movie between the patient's new found savior McMurphy, and the evil Nurse Ratched who rules their wing of the hospital with an iron fist. McMurphy fights to change the system to try to win back the patients' rights and in the process gain more privileges for the patients and himself. McMurphy also seems to get pleasure out of fighting the system. His motives are simple, he wants to help out his fellow patients, his friends, to make their lives better. McMurphy was successful in changing many of the rules and regulations that were imposed upon them by Nurse Ratched. McMurphy was a very inspirational speaker and during the regularly occurring meetings between the patients and the doctors he would rally the patients to fight against Nurse Ratched. Thus he was able to win back some of their rights. McMurphy also uses his cunning wit and his skills as a con man to persuade the doctors into giving the patients more rights and activities. I think that he was faking crazy because he had only 68 days left in work detail and so he thought he would fake it so he could stay in " The Cuckoos Nest" for the rest of the time. He was wrong though. He was actually admitted which means that he could only leave when the doctors thought he was better. He was only 1 of 3 that was actually admitted. He thought he was smart but in the end he dies for being lazy. He gets into a fight with one of the guards and he is given electric shock of 10,000 volts every day for 2 weeks. Then he came back and he was just like he was before. Then he invited these 2 girls over to have a party at the institute. The way that he got the girls in is that he paid the guard on duty $40.00. They had a party and McMurphy was about to escape but he drank too much and passed out. In the morning when the other guards came to do their shift they found everyone passed out on the floor. McMurphy again hit a guard and this…

The Iroquois creation story is similar to the biblical story of creation. In the Bible, God is credited for the making of the universe and all the non-living things and living things, including mankind. The Iroquois creation story talks about two worlds, one is full of light and mankind and the other world is full of darkest and monsters. This description is comparable to the idea of heaven and hell. According to the bible, heaven is a place full of light, beauty, and this place is where God and his angel reside. While hell is a place full with darkest, pain and anguish. The sky woman is the creator of the universe, just as God is the creator in the biblical story. The good son (good mind) can be compared to Jesus. While as the bad son (bad…

The whole play being set in one room, Frank’s office, is not very common in theatres or plays. Having this shocks the audience and instantly becomes more interesting because of its difference. On a symbolic level, the furniture is very interesting. The squeaky door represents a Frank’s barrier, and isolation from the outside world. The window, although transparent, represents a weaker barrier he has with his students. However, Rita finds her way in; showing her determination from Frank’s lost spirit. This struggle of becoming a more educated person becomes interesting for the audience as they can compare it their own…

Since Hollywood is planning to remake the 1975 masterpiece “One flew over the cuckoos nest”, I thought I'd make a review of it, trying to convince the Hollywood executives that this movie still holds up today, and doesn't need a remake.…

McMurphy begins by protesting minor but significant defects of the ward policies. When he first arrives, he runs around in nothing but a towel and provokes shock and anger from the Big Nurse. His actions let the nurses and patients know that he won't simply sit back and take the staff's cruel treatment to get the patients to conform quietly and without protest. He begins to gamble with the patients, first for cigarettes and eventually for IOUs, despite the nurse's rule of no gambling on the ward for money (Kesey 102). He also convinces the spineless Dr. Spivey to allow the patients to open up a separate day room for their card games. He uses the doctor to implement these changes, which aggravates the nurse because it takes away her power. The resentment between McMurphy and Nurse Ratched continues to build.…

While viewing the movie One flew over the cuckoos nest I experienced a wide variety of thoughts and/or feelings. In my opinion, this 1975 film portrayed a range of people with different disorders. Although the negative messages the movie relays outweigh the positive, I believe this movie gave a good overall perception (whether that be good or bad) on what life in an state hospital may be like.…

Arrticus from “How to Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee is a good man that loves his children and is pretty much flawless, but his biggest flaw is being a racist. His children think he chose Tom Robinson's case but the truth is that “Arrticus “hoped to get through life without a case of this kind, but [judge] John Taylor pointed at [him] and said, ‘You’re It.’””(117 Lee). He knows the outcome will be a loss, but he continues to try because he values equality and justice in the legal system. After meeting Tom, Arrticus still supports his friend Walter Cunningham who is a farmer and is “part of a [lynch] mob” called the “Old Sarum”. One can say he choose to do the case which is true, but the question should be why Arrticus choose only Tom’s…

“Inside Man” was released in 2006 and would later become the highest grossing film for the director Spike Lee. The film is a crime-drama, located primarily in a bank in New York City run by multi billionaire Arthur Case. Although the film is a thriller and contains bits of action and suspense, the movie focuses heavily on the difference between good and evil. The movie begins with a shot in medias res of Clive Owen’s character Dalton Russell explaining the difference between being stuck in a tiny cell and being in prison while he moves around a small room which is later disclosed to be part of the maintenance room of the bank blocked off by a fake wall. Russell then explains that he has recently robbed a bank for “obvious financial reasons” and just simply because he can. How he does it is then shown throughout the film, leading up to the conclusion of the film and a second showing of the opening scene, this time possessing a different connation. The significance of the bank is shown to be in the contents of the unregistered safety deposit box located in the vault. The box contains jewels and potentially damaging content to Arthur Case which proves his involvement with the Nazis during the Holocaust in order to gain the financial status he now has. This prompts him to hire Ms. White (Jodie Foster), a woman who specializes in “dealing with these kinds of things” to somehow extract or eliminate the box. In the meantime Denzel Washington’s character Detective Keith Frazier leads the police force surrounding the bank and essentially becomes the viewer’s alignment unit for much of the film which focuses primarily on his character throughout the picture. The film goes on to explain Arthur Case’s involvement with the Nazis in the Holocaust, sparking Ms. White’s necessity to use her…

The Graduate is a comedy-drama based in the 1960’s, which follows the story of a struggling college graduate who is seduced by an older woman and ends up falling in love with her daughter. Directed by Mike Nichols, The Graduate ‘captured the spirit of the times’. The 1960’s marked a change in film scoring, instead of the well-established orchestral ‘Hollywood sound’ the industry demanded a more modern approach thus marked integration of popular music. Nichols approached Simon and Garfunkel a raising folk-rock duo to contribute to the composition of the score. Simon was hesitant at first been quite underwhelmed by the book, ‘I didn't like anything about the film at first…. I was only impressed with Mike Nichols who asked us to do it’. Convinced…

Spoiler alert: The title of this exhilarating play brought to life on the screen gives away the ending of the book! Once Arthur Miller's dramatic and heartfelt tragedy is brought to screen by Volker Schlondorff the representation of the common American man is expressed in Arthur Miller’s heart breaking novels both Death of a Salesman and The Crucible. Both of these novels clearly describing the decay of a dream of wealth and status. Since I have the privilege of comparing both of these books, since I have now read both of them, I can confidently say: The crucible fails in comparison with Death of a Salesman. Primarily because Arthur MIller's wastes no time on boring interloge, each sentence is full of suspense waiting for the explosion of the plot. Yet, the film is quite disturbing and depressing, almost as if wanting the make the viewer question the value of his or her own life.…

I choose Forrest Gump as a historical movie. The movie was about a young man with a mental disability that goes through this major event in the 1960 – 1970s not only that but it was kind of romantic. Though out the entire movie, Forrest seems to be going along with the time line in his life looking for his first true love Jenny. Mean while she is living it out as a hippie tagging along with the wrong crowd and as for Forrest he maintains hope that one day she will love him. Not only that but the events that he lived in leads him to become a war hero and a billionaire. In the end he realize that life keeps on going as a “destiny or floating alike a breeze”.…

Everybody would agree that the entire film takes place in real time and it seems to have a simple plot. There is no flashback but instead to remember to the things happened in the past 10 years ago. The author use the mode of multiperspectivity which means to build the story by seeing situations from different perspectives, hearing different voices and opinions, listening and thinking, increasing awareness and understanding. Usually, if you are in 3rd person point of view that the camera is in one character’s head you stay in that point of view for a whole scene or issue. On the other hand, when multiple characters are in the same scene and you want to be in the head of each character, then you are seeing with an omniscient point of view.…
