Obstacles Of Gandhi's Life
As an assignment, I watched the “Gandhi (1982)” starring Ben Kingsley and Candice Bergen. The movie shows Mohandas Gandhi’s life. He was a lawyer who later became the leader of India’s rebellion against Great Britain. He used extraordinary non-violent tactics. During his life, Gandhi faced many obstacles: discrimination and violence. At the start of the movie, Mohandas Gandhi is thrown off of a train because he was seated in the “whites only” part of the train. The conductor of the train told him that colored folk were allowed to sit in first and after he attempted to explain his rights, he was literally pelted off. That was only the beginning of the mistreatment that Gandhi received during his life long journey. After being thrown off of the …show more content…
Coming from South Africa, he was not used to being treated so highly. While in India, he starts back with his nonviolent fight for the freedom of India from, again, Great Britain. Ultimately, India is given their independence after a long fight, non-violent of course, from the British rule. Though India had its independence and India’s people were almost free from domination the country was still divided into two religions: Hinduism and Muslim. The two religions did not get along well, but then there was Gandhi. Even though Mohandas Gandhi was Hindu, he still acknowledged all religions and all people. He deemed fighting about religion unnecessary and said that he would cease eating until all of the fighting came to an end. He stated that he would fast until all of the fighting stopped, and that if he died fasting, then they would surely stop. As he predicted the fighting had came to an end, but the country had then separated into two different regions by religion: Hindus on one side and Muslims on the other. Gandhi did not like how the country separated itself from one another, and he decides to have another non-violent campaign to bring India back together as one. Because of his actions, unfortunately, Gandhi’s life was ended. People of both religions started to become restless with Mohandas Gandhi. They believed that the two religions should not be united, but that they should stay divided. …show more content…
Allegedly, Trayvon Martin was visiting his father, Tracy Martin, in Sanford, Florida and after walking home from the store in a black hooded-sweater was attacked by George Zimmerman. After seeing the young man walking home, Zimmerman phoned the Sanford police from his SUV to report a suspicious-looking man walking around outside and the police told him to stay where he was. Zimmerman, failing to follow instructions, gets out the SUV, attacks, shoots, and kills Trayvon Martin. When put on trial, Zimmerman was found not guilty and was freed from imprisonment. This is an issue that ends in violence that could’ve been solved with non-violence and still can be resolved in non-violence. Instead of getting out of the car with the gun, Zimmerman could’ve politely asked where Martin was going or simply just minded his own business. Maybe, if he had of done that Trayvon Martin would still be alive today. After Trayvon Martin’s death people were protesting and rioting everywhere to get the court to revoke the decision and throw Zimmerman in jail. Non-violence can be used to solve the problems just as how Martin Luther King and Gandhi both did. Protest and boycott with other followers and stand up for what you believe in. Commit acts of civil disobedience, until the government understands and realizes the injustices occurring around America. To

A lot of things took place on the night of June 26, 2012 in the dispute between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. No one knows exactly what happened on this night besides the two individuals involved. I believe since Trayvon Martin is now dead and is unable to tell his story; he needed people to fight for his justice. After a trial ruled by 6 women on the jury stand, George Zimmerman was acquitted of his charges of the killing of Trayvon Martin. I believe Zimmerman should have been guilty for the killing of Trayvon Martin. I believe the fact that Zimmerman was found not guilty makes it appear okay to the public to open fire on people when in an altercation. Trayvon Martin’s family fought hard for his justice, although it was not served, it made people aware of the things taking place in our…

Gandhi was the leader of the Indian Independence movement in British ruled India. He resisted the government by using non-violent disobedience. You must keep in mind that the system that he lived in(British ruled India) was very organized and it was very hard to resist the governments laws. He used one of the most effective methods of gathering the people and controlling them to his will. For example when the people made revolts against the British government Gandhi would starve himself to get them to listen because the people really cared about him. This method can only work if the people really care about you. At 5:17 PM on 30 January 1948 Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse in the garden of the Birla house. In 1930 Mahatma Gandhi challenged the British government by ignoring the salt tax with a 400 km Salt…

On January 30, 1948, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. As Godse walks up to Gandhi, he shoots him three times in the chest from three feet away (Trumball 1). As “the strongest influence for peace in India that this generation has known,” Gandhi did not deserve to be assassinated despite the beliefs of Godse (Trumball 1). Gandhi’s main goal was always to gain independence for India; to do this he undertook 17 fasts (Smith 2). The assassination of Mahatma Gandhi was unjust because he was a nonviolent world leader and he helped promote peace between different religious groups within India; however, others may believe that he was to blame for the separation of India.…

The film I decided to watch was the film on the activist/lawyer Gandhi. He was most known for his non-violent ways of getting his point across when the United Kingdom’s takeover of his home country India. Gandhi first emerged this protest when he was on a bus and he was forced to move to the back of the bus because he was an Indian man. This is when Gandhi first entered into the activist world and began to merge his country together and fight back without literally fighting. I think Gandhi was one of the most significant persons in the 20th century. He was the one who proved that it is possible to fight very successful without violence. He fought his whole life with humanity, tolerance, ideas and without violence. He showed the way to a better world. And still today there are many people who love him and who use his philosophy to change the world. A very important example is the fight against wars. Usually people who fight against a war try to fight without violence. Gandhi is motivated by religious means; he believes that everyone is equal in God's eyes. “An eye for an eye, makes the whole world blind” He gets involved in several movements for equality, and he stresses non-violence very strongly. The Indians are very mad because British rule continues to limit their rights. They are supposed to all get fingerprinted, and their marriage laws are invalid. Gandhi's followers vow to fight their oppressors to the death, but he discourages them from violence.…

“Breaking News! Indian citizen Mohandas Gandhi is organizing a protest to reduce British taxes on salt, 36 years after he made a compromise with the South African government about Indian suffrage. This was accomplished by what Gandhi and what other Hinduist followers consider satyagraha; or civil disobedience.” I switched the small, tattered, black and white TV off. I was amazed how one leader could bring down a strong government with a big military force, just with civil disobedience. Ever since I was born, we were controlled over British colonial rule. My parents were forced to work as peasants, because all the high-paying jobs were taken by whites. Because of inaccessibility to medical assistance, my mom died. My father was so stricken with…

The movie “Gandhi” is a biographical account that brings major events of Gandhi’s life, to life. The movie begins in Southern Africa, 1893, Gandhi is kicked off a train for travelling first class, because of his race. This event made Gandhi realize that these laws are biased against certain races. Gandhi experienced, and embodied the “See, Judge, Act” method first hand. He saw what was going on, judged that these laws are morally wrong, and acted on it. Gandhi then decided to start a non-violent protest campaign for the rights of all Indians in South Africa. Throughout his journey Gandhi received multiple arrests and a lot of negative attention from the world, and soon enough the government finally decided to recognize rights for Indians, but not for native blacks of South Africa. This victory results in Gandhi getting invited back to India. He is now believed to be a national hero. He is soon advised to fight for India's independence against the British Empire. Gandhi recognizes the recommendation, and starts a non-violent non-cooperation campaign of unprecedented scale. This coordinated millions of Indians nation-wide. However, there were setbacks. Violence began against protesters and of course Gandhi’s sporadic imprisonment. Despite the setbacks, the campaign generated positive attention, and Britain faced serious pressure from the public. Britain finally then…

Gandhi lead one of the greatest mass movements in the World’s history. As a leader, Gandhi utilised religious principles in order to inspire people to fight colonial oppression in India. Mohandas demanded to study law in Great Britain; however, his caste (social rank) did not allow him to travel abroad, so when he refused to comply he was expelled from the caste of merchants. Despite the fact that Gandhi was expelled from the caste, he still kept continuing with his first step to becoming a lawyer to help gain independence to India. However, after gaining his degree Gandhi was unable to have a job because the British Empire had no interest in Indian lawyers considering the level of racism before Gandhi’s life-changing actions.…

As the NRA said “Guns aren’t the issue, it’s racism”, and I agree with this opinion. The NRA is national rifle association and they didn’t believe that it was the Stand your ground law that got trayvon Martin killed, it was the fact that theres so much racism going around that people end up getting hurt from that. They also believe that because of Zimmerman, people with guns are all the sudden bad people. The NRA says that “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, to emphasize that one shooting should not overshadow the fact that millions of people who own guns in the United States have never had a violent…

Mahatama Gandhi is well known as the father of the Indian independence movement. During his lifetime Gandhi spent 20 years in South Africa working to end discrimination. He demonstrated a non-violent way of protesting against injustices. While in India, Gandhi's simple lifestyle drew him to people. He spent the remaining years of his life working persistently to remove British rule from India as well as to better the lives of India's poorest classes. Despite Gandhi’s appeal for peace, his life ended un-peacefully when he was shot on January 30, 1948 at the age of 78. His assassination was unjust for several reasons buy mainly because he was the commander of the fight for Indian independence from the British, was known around the world as a symbol of peace, justice and human rights.
