Nutrition Goals Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life style. Most of us are rushed due to our busy work schedules, and do not take time to plan our meals properly. I am one of the those people. Sometimes we are unaware of the importance of eating healthy and consuming too much food without the proper nutrients. After analyzing my dietary journal, I noticed my diet is not as balanced as I thought it was. I was over consuming carbohydrates and under consuming vegetables and some minerals. According to my BMI (Body Mass Index) of 19.1 which is normal for my height to weight ratio. My EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) is 2,976 Kcal per day, this is because
I am a very active person. Although, sometimes I don’t think I consume enough energy per day. I studied my previous intake of carbohydrates such as white rice and bread. They were very high in my diet, because I am from another culture where white rice is included as a main dish in every meal. This is something that I might have to change and substitute with a healthier rice into my meal plan. Carbohydrates are a very important macronutrient in our daily diet, but over consumption of carbohydrates can cause weight gain. I will not cut carbohydrates down from my diet, but instead look for something different to consume, such as changing white bread to whole wheat or white rice to brown rice and etc.

Meal scheduling is one of the hardest things for me to deal with. There are some days that I skip dinner due to my busy school schedule. Not eating anything at all is much worse of your health than eating late at night. My solution is to give myself more time and start eating light portions for dinner, a well balanced and healthy meal. Another main issue in my diet is my consumption of vegetables. Vegetables are a good source of vitamins and minerals

-Supplying enough energy to support the many functions of the body at work and play is one of the chief functions of food. This energy comes from the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in the food you eat. Of the three, fat is the most concentrated source of energy because it furnishes more than twice as much energy for a given weight as protein or carbohydrate. The energy requirement for a person is divided into two parts: basal metabolic requirements and energy required for activity. Basal metabolic rate is the heat eliminated from the body at rest when temperature is normal. An average person requires 2000-2400 Calories per day while a large man doing heavy work may require up to 6000 Calories per day. The three main classes of food provide the following amount of energy: carbohydrates and proteins provide about 4 Calories per gram; fats provide about 9 Calories per gram. When you choose foods that furnish more energy, or…

Variations in energy intake are likely to lead to weight loss or gain. Elite players have been found to have diets which are too high in fat and too low in CHO intake. They should be encouraged to consume more unsaturated fat (e.g. margarine) instead of saturated fat (e.g. butter) as well as complex carbohydrates such as pasta and rice. So what are the respective amounts of CHO, fat, and protein required for a player with a daily intake of 16000 kJ or 3809 kcal. Firstly, for a standard healthy diet, general dietary recommendations of 55-60% CHO, 25-30% Fat and 10-15% protein are advised. A simple calculation shows that the player should be consuming 550-600g of CHO, 108-130g of fat and 94-141g of…

We all know how the bad days go, sometimes you may be able to grab some finger food that you can stuff in your mouth on the only 2 free minutes you have for the day. Water? Forget it. Taking time to go to the bathroom? Some days you’re lucky if you go once or twice in a full 12 hour shift. Do we all know how bad this is for you? Yes. Do we still do it? Of course. Time is often not on our side, and our body suffers because of it. When surveyed, “half of respondents said they felt they had enough time to eat a healthy, balanced diet, while the other half said time pressures prevented them eating well. However, perhaps more significantly, 55% admitted to currently being ‘overweight’ or ‘very overweight’” ("How happy and," 2008).…

From the foods and beverages recorded in my three day intake most contained some percentage of protein except the sodas. The highest percentage of protein came from my ham and cheese omelet every morning. Another good source of protein was the low fat milk in my cereal which I usually ate for lunch or a snack. Some other foods with protein were the mixed grain bread, bean and cheese burrito, nachos from Taco Bell, corn dogs, and Subway sandwiches. Foods that contained carbohydrates were basically everything. The only item on my list that contained very low percentages of carbohydrates was ham and cheese omelets. The food items that contained the most amount of carbohydrates was mixed grain bread, sodas, Frosted Flakes cereal, low fat milk, bean and cheese burrito, nachos from Taco Bell, French fries, and Subway sandwiches. Lipids were also found in most food items on my list as well. The only items on my list that did not contain lipids are the soda and Frosted Flakes cereal. The items that contained the most amounts of lipids are the ham and cheese omelets, nachos from Taco Bell, and the Subway sandwiches.…
