Nutrition Board Reflection
Since my last reflection, I have worked on a nutrition board display for the school. My goals for the nutrition board was to present the Canadian food guide in a multi-cultural way as well as to address the observed need of recognizing serving sizes. There was also to be the integration of tips for parents to help them save money when grocery shopping and tips for picky eaters as this is a common issue for parents. This would be utilizing the community health standard of health promotion and capacity building. The issue I will be addressing is in the way I was given and how I received the feedback for the nutritional board.
Receiving feedback is essential to learning as it provides a way to assess how effective and appropriate my intervention that was geared towards capacity build. Receiving feedback also allows a student to learn how they can improve and what they did well. This would mean, how well I understood the needs and dynamics of the schools population. It enforces the

Her choice of words and questions were in a tone that made me feel like I was being put down, belittled due to the perceived power imbalance this created. I especially felt this, when she used the words “Really, Jessica” and putting me on the spot to respond to a remark as to whether I agreed. I also felt I was the one being criticized for the choice I made for the board not my work. As I felt that I was not given much guidance or support and was left to do it. After reflecting on how I received feedback, I realize and know that when receiving feedback it is hard for the person providing feedback to be honest if they are worried about upsetting you. I realized the need to control my emotions so that it does not get in the way of receiving the critical feedback that is required to grow and

    Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables. The new school lunch rules are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which has been implemented this fall. (Post Standard) The Hunger Act allows the USDA the opportunity to make reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs.     Those who do not know me well are amazed by what they perceive to be a great amount of determination, diligence, and willpower when it comes to my eating habits.
