Nt1310 Unit 3 Experimental Study
Lab 3: Experimental Design & Hypothesis Testing
1. Some observations found about termites are that they live in moist, dark environments, they are sterile and lack eyes, and their primary task is to collect food. From this information the hypothesis that due to their lack of eyes, they use feeling of their skin to find what they are searching for and a pencil line would give a feeling of wood that would attract the termites. By making a course that split into two paths of a pen line and pencil line, the termites will prefer the pencil line and follow the pencil. Toward the end the termites were found mostly on neither pen or pencil therefore showing no correlation toward the feeling of pencil or pen.
The experiment had a limit on the amount of termites and what would be best would be able to have many termites, such as 20, start at the starting point by placing them there accurately. They hypothesis seemed fine but the experimental design was flawed.

Students are known to do generally better on tests by studying for them rather than not studying the test. The alternate hypothesis would be that students who study for their test would do better on their test and the null hypothesis is there no difference in scores between the students who study and do not study. The independent variable would be the students and the dependent variable would be the scores of the tests. To test for the hypothesis there would be a split between students and one group will study for the test while the other group does not. Then the test is given at the same time and afterward the scores of the test is collected. The confounding factor for this situation is the measurement of how smart the student is and their experience toward the subject of the test. The students’ knowledge would skewed the overall data even if there shows an increase of scores for the students who

    A) Thingamajigs and Things has total assets of $45,000 and $9,000 in liabilities. This gives a current ratio of 5.00:1. Wannabees has total assets of $150,000 and $85,000 in liabilities. This gives a current ratio of 1.76:1. Thingamajigs and Things is more likely to be approved for a loan, because it has a higher current ration. This means that their assets are higher than their liabilities (what they owe), and they are more likely to be able to make payments.…

Initially I wanted to open up two markets one in Europe and one in North America; however, that would be approximately 25% of startup cash available to the business. The market research provided in the first quarter made the workhorse and Mercedes group the two favorable to go after. With the workhorse group there was a large quantity of customers, and the Mercedes group offered a large profit margin per product. When you did your hand wash experiment, you decided a variable to test, say, hot vs cold water, you called this variable an “experimental variable” since it was the variable you were testing experimentally. In order to get meaningful data, you need to keep other things the same, for example the washing time had to be the same for both, you called the washing time a _Control_______ variable.…

Why should we pick you: Well, I will dedicate my time and effort into this server and try and help new users all the time; I am normally always on the computer and if I am not, that means I'm at sports practice or doing a project/HW. And I've been playing minecraft since I was 8 and I have tons of experience and I think I can use that to the best of my abilities towards helping the server. And I used to be a hacker myself and I know a lot about hacks and I could also use that to spy on hackers and punish them for disobeying the rules; and with that ability to spot hacks easily, I think that will benefit the server greatly. Also, I would like to become a Helper because I would love to be apart of this community and help the server become less-toxic and just help the server in everyway possible that I can to the best of my abilities. Also I want staff because of my skills at being a moderator.…

The experiment was carried out as a choice experiment between three different light intensity values. The three choices were the light intensities provided by cheesecloth, black and transparent covers. The lux value under the black was measured to be the lowest (37 lux), followed by the cheesecloth (90 lux) and then the highest value was under the transparent cover (115 lux). The experiment was carried out by placing the organism in a circular glass bowl that was surrounded by black filmy paper and then placing the light intensity divider on top of the bowl; refer to figure 1 for illustration of setup. The organism was then given three minutes to roam around and make a selection. The choices were randomized by the fact that there were three simultaneous treatments occurring at once, so each starting point choice for a treatment was randomly different from the others and the direction the organisms faced when placed was randomized by the way it dropped into the container. The response of the organism was measured by its position once the three minutes were up, however if the organisms was still in motion when the time period was up the response was then measured as no choice.…
