There are three reasons I am optimistic about my future; My military career, my family life, and my faith. My military career has allowed me the ability to become a great leader. I am a non commissioned officer with 12 years of service and one deployment to Iraq. My family life has always been by my side when ever I have been in need about my future goals. My family has always pushed me with words of encouragement in my attempts to get a degree in education. Lastly, my faith in God has always allowed me to look towards the cross when ever I have had hardships. When my father in law was diagnosed with cancer, it was my faith that kept me looking to the positives of the future. The reason that I am optimistic about my future is from all of the experiences I have gained while being in the Army. In the Army, I have been taught to think quickly and make decisions as a leader. These two things are what have driven me to work so hard to get promoted and to make decisions that not only impact my civilian life, but my future in the military. The army also taught me how to use all of my resources for the goal of getting the mission done. The mission in my civilian life is going to school and preparing a career as a teacher. The tools that I have used from my military career is the tuition assistance for college and the post 9/11 GI Bill, which pays for my books, fees, and tuition costs for college. The second reason that I am optimistic about my future is my family life. My family has always pushed me to be better in everything that I do. When I was in finished High school and thought about going into the military, my family helped me to make the decision of whether it was a good idea or not. When I thought about what I would be in college, my family helped me to stay focused on the school that I would benefit most from, Central Connecticut State University. My family allows me to be optimistic about my future because I see in them an example of what it is to be

Like Celie, I am an optimistic person because I do not let statistics define who am I and what I am capable of. Even though I come from a background that would not be able to be successful in society, I do not let that stop me. The world does not know my capabilities like I do.…

There are four factors that cause people to have unrealistic optimism: Their desired end state, their cognitive mechanisms, the information they have about themselves versus others and overall mood. Studies show that most humans are disposed to unrealistic optimism. Illusory optimism increases our vulnerability. This cognitive bias prevents people from taking precautionary measures in life, especially regarding health conditions.…

Learning Objectives: Students should be able to ... • Define evolution, fitness, and adaptation using the biological definitions. • Describe the nature of the evidence regarding (1) whether species change through time and (2) whether they are related by common ancestry. • Assess whether Darwin's four postulates are true in any given example, explain to a friend why evolution must occur if all four are true, and explain whether evolution will occur if any of the four are not true. • Identify common misconceptions about evolution, and give examples to illustrate why they are not true. (For example: Is evolution progressive? Do animals do things "for the good of the species"? Does evolution result in perfection?) Lecture Outline • Evolution is one of the best-supported and most important theories in the history of science. • Evolution is one of the five attributes of life. • Evolution has both a pattern and a process. I. The Evolution of Evolutionary Thought A. Plato and typological thinking 1. Plato saw species as unchanging, perfect "types" created by God. 2. Plato thought individual variation was an unimportant deviation from the true "type." B. Aristotle and the great chain of being (scale of nature) 1. Aristotle, like Plato, thought species were unchanging types. 2. Aristotle thought species could be organized into a sequence or ladder of increasing complexity, with humans at the top. (Fig. 24.1) C. Lamarck and the idea of evolution as change through time 1. Lamarck noticed that organisms changed over time. 2. Lamarck thought animals progressed over time from "lower" to "higher" forms (like Aristotle's ladder) via inheritance of acquired characteristics. D. To be optimistic about something means to be hopeful and confident about it. The word optimistic can be applied to several things. Such as; a person, an idea, and to me, our Nation's future. When someone is optimistic about something, the person, idea, or thing usually means something to them, and America's future means something to me. It means a great deal to me because I live in a place where I have the freedom to make my own choices, have an opinion, and to worship our mighty God whom I love and serve . America also means something to me because it is a country that is worth fighting for. I am reminded every day of all the troops that have fallen and i am also reminded of the dedicated military that works so hard to make our home a better place. I am able to put all of my trust into my country's future and I will forever remain optimistic about it. There are so many reasons why I am so optimistic but a few reasons stand out to me. The three that stand out to me are because of the potentially strong upcoming generation, because of America's ability to stand back up after being defeated, and because of the knowledge and footsteps our past great leaders have left us.…

In my student career, I have strongly held the belief that the single most important thing in my life is to learn, and to learn everything I am capable of. I always have said: "A genius is not a person who knows everything. A genius, is a person whom is aware of what they know, and are willing to learn more." This is my philosophy as a student, to learn at every opportunity and realize lessons can be sometimes very difficult to learn. I have come to school every day in my life that I am able, with the thought that I will learn, and keep an optimistic attitude in that sense. Optimism is by far the most important ideal to have to succeed, and I try to share optimism with my classmates and any living being around me. Optimism has kept my grades at high marks, and though they may sometimes drop due to a mistake, they always are brought back up, due to the optimism that I have learned from the…

Optimism is hard for me to achieve. I’ve been through so many tough times in my seventeen years and it is very difficult to stay positive. I’ve had to suffer through many broken bones and surgeries, depression and the things that go along with it, and also being bullied in school. I try to stay as optimistic as I can. Being positive and hoping for the best is about all I can do for myself. My life definitely has not been the best but even through all of the terrible things I’ve endured, I can still keep a positive outlook on things.…

Some people may say I'm not as optimistic as others, I think it's how you look at me. I'm not one to jump at any challenge, but if I think it will be worth it in the end I will try my hardest. To try to change this theory in others, how they look at things, is a little harder. People get set in their ways and get lazy. In fact this generation is set in their way of thinking, because it seems everything is just handed to them.…

I was raised with the beliefs that there is an importance of having security in all aspects of life, whether that is financial, physical, or emotional. These were, and still are, the ultimate objectives I have for myself and every action I take and have taken has been formed around this sentiment. My parents taught me that “dreams are the touchstones of our character” and that it is important to dream big while remaining clear on goals and realistic with decisions. On the path to deciding my future, their advice remains with me and assists in establishing myself in the goals that I have set.…

When a person displays a positive psychology, he is very hopeful for the future and this is reflected in his performance whether in school or at work. As noted, his personality traits will determine his behavior or reaction (Coon and Mitterer, 2010). He does not make excuses for bad things or allow temporary setbacks to deter him, but continues to persevere (Seligman M.E.P., 2002). Upon completion of my Optimism Test, my overall score was average. I had no qualms about this because some of the situations in the questions did not happen to me, so I will assume that my results were indicative that others in my age and gender group responded likewise. Three experiences that account for my level of optimism were my decision to relocate, my experiences as a grandmother, and my divorce. These experiences may be life-altering for some, but they have not made me feel bad about the way I choose to live my life.…
