Non Animal Testing Research Paper
Animal testing for cosmetic products and substances should be banned completely because of the benefits there is to non-cosmetic animal testing. According to People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, “A variety of cell-based tests and tissue models can be used to assess the safety of drugs, chemicals, cosmetics, and consumer products” (“Alternatives to Animal Testing”). This means a new form of technology allows researchers to replace animal testing with human skin cells and tissues that can be used to determine the safety of a substance. The use of vitro testing technology or Epiderm is more accurate than animal tests because of the cultured human cells. This system accurately detects the substances that hurt the human body, while traditional animal testing has a higher percentage rate of …show more content…
New England Anti-Vivisection Society observes that non-cosmetic animal testing is more economical and practical. Traditional animal testing for chemicals can take up to 5 years per substance and can cost millions of dollars. Non-animal testing alternatives can test hundreds of chemicals at the same time and also cost less than traditional animal testing (“Benefits of non-animal testing”). Basically, New England Anti-Vivisection Society is saying alternatives to non-animal testing takes half the amount of time and money to complete than traditional animal testing. The determination of the tests results take up to four hours the most, while traditional animal testing often takes three to four weeks to come in. It could take years for researchers to test only once substance on an animal, while non-animal testing alternatives can test multiple substances at once and retrieve faster results. Cruelty Free International states, “Crude skin allergy tests in guinea pigs only predict human reactions 72% of the time. But a combination of chemistry and cell-based alternative methods has been shown to accurately predict human reactions 90% of the time (“Alternatives

These alternative testing methods are producing more efficient results and are eliminating the horrors and inhumanity associated with traditional animal testing. Many people are rejecting alternative methods because they are new and unorthodox. However, alternative methods of testing do not mean putting humans at risk. They do not mean putting a halt on medical progress. Rather, non-animal testing will greatly improve the quality and humaneness of our toxicity testing and drug…

Many different brands, especially cosmetic brands, have cruelty-free stickers on their products to let the customer know the product was produced without harm to animals. The United States of America has not limited the use of animal testing yet, however, the European Union has limited animal testing and banned the use of testing on animals on cosmetics and cosmetic ingredients (European…

It might not be efficient at testing medicine because you will want to see how it affects human organs but you can also grow cells which is a lot more expensive but you can selectively choose what cells you want to grow like liver or muscle cells of anything. With this possibility the only reason to keep animal testing would be because of greed. “skin corrosivity and irritation can be easily measured using three-dimensional human skin equivalent systems such as EpiDerm and SkinEthic. Additional alternatives include EpiSkin (a model of reconstructed human epithelium) and a variety of sophisticated, computer-based Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) models that predict skin corrosivity and irritation by means of correlating a new drug or chemical with its likely activity, properties, and effects with classification accuracy between 90 and 95 percent”(NEAVS,…

But from when man has started developing he began to treat the non-humans or animals as his inferiors and has begun to give them the least respect. It is evident from history that he considered the beings with less reasoning ability as mediocre beings and made them to serve him. For example plants are for the purpose of serving animals and animals to serve humans.…

Animal testing has been a topic of debate for many generations. It is difficult to imagine a common house hold pet subjected to extreme procedures of the mildest and painless form to the harshest form imaginable. I am talking about your average mouse, rabbit, cat or dog. At the same time, consumers want to be assured they are using the safest products available, and people want science to find cures for life-threatening diseases. Lately, science has tried to prove out theories and hypnosis through computer algorithms but we still have to rely on physical subjects like the animals referenced. There is no public argument that says we should not test products before entering the market, the debate is the method by which these products should be tested. Animal testing is necessary for biomedical research, but should be eradicated for vanity reasons in terms of cosmetics.…

Animal testing is undoubtedly one of the most controversial issues in modern society. This practice began in the 19th century; animals were used to test dosing of certain drugs and chemicals. In the 1920’s, animals were also being used to test pesticides and food additives (Fano, 11). Today, animal testing is used to study everything from cosmetics to cancer. With such a wide range of opinions on animal rights and human priority, it is no wonder that this topic is so controversial. There are people who have an extreme view on the issue and are either completely pro or completely con. In my opinion, the issue of animal testing is far too complex for one simple answer; its morality lies somewhere in between the two poles. Animal testing is acceptable if it results in saving people’s lives. It is not acceptable, however, if it results in personal or cosmetic products that are far from vital to the human race.…
