The author argues that the invention of Cell Phones and Internet has drastically changed the social aspect in the lives of human beings, positively but more negativity arises.
Summary
The existence of Cell Phone and Internet is changing the way human does things. Back in the days, technology used to be for entertainment and communication purposes but not anymore. The plus side of these technologies is that it gives users greater mobility whereby they can work and socialize with others easily. Besides, working does not limit them to be confined in a cubicle; they can work anywhere as long as they have their cell phones and internet with them. Technologies do make our lives easier as it is more advanced and efficient in many uses. However, people are very dependent on these technologies and reports have shown that technologies contribute more stress rather than simplifying our lives. Face to face interaction has vastly decreased when phone calls are convenient and for some people it eliminates awkward situations and that gives them a major sense of relief (Hanson, Jarice 2007).
The decreasing amount of physical interaction amongst people is subtly changing the American values, obvious signs of changes in attitudes, behaviours and cultures can be seen but unnoticeable to them. The widespread usage of cell phones and internet constructs an unseen force that “forces” people to respond to it immediately thus increasing the amount of unnecessary stress. This leads to more focus on technologies rather than on their supposed and required-to-do activities.
With the emergence of cell phones and internet, media companies have to compete globally, not only with their neighbourhood rivals. When new technologies influenced time, human beings freely adapt to it without a single objection or question. They are oblivious on how profoundly apparent it is that technologies are creating such a huge impact on them by ruining them subtly, such as altering good behaviour to ruthless, selfish and inconsiderate behaviour.
Reflection
I agree with this article on both the good and bad side. With such advancement in technologies, it does give human beings an easier form of life due to it being more advanced and efficient in uses, creating easier communication between people no matter where they are, onshore or offshore. However, as the author has described, people are losing their true identity and blindly accepting new technologies regardless of it doing them bad or good. It is also true that people are more introverts now with the usage of cell phones and internet and further decreasing face to face interactions in the long term when technologies are more advanced in the future.
