Nero's Short Story
Exfiltration orders: take the second tunnel to the left
‘That show never really got off the ground,’ Nero observes to SH as they are being bundled ever further down a winding tunnel.
From somewhere the MC’s voice, ‘Look, we wanted some razz-matazz out there tonight, but things are not really working out. You’ve at least discovered that Story Hunter is not dead meat.’
With frustration shining through in voice SH complains, ‘Yeah, it is all well and good to have found me, but now we have lost Buiteboer to the netherworld, it seems.’
The MC sounds unconcerned about Buiteboer’s whereabouts, ‘The guards will leave you now. Just walk on further down the second tunnel, take every third one right from there, and remember to turn left when you reach

. .’ Nero waves abruptly, ‘you’re saying that you need us? Is that why we had to be dragged out here and gutted out of historical depth to plummet headlong into the front-line of the war? That is, if I understand you correctly, happening simultaneously on the shores of Mound Zep and the multiplicity of battle fronts that scar the earth’s unforgiving human crust?’
The response comes quickly, ‘Yes, that’s exactly it. We decided our efforts out here require, possibly, a bit more publicity down on earth. You know, some of these guys have been out of action for a few thousand years.’ Gilgamesh looks at him with a predictably challenging snarl.
‘Oh, so that’s what it’s about? Information war on earth to rally forces behind your cause to liberate Mound Zep?’
Ptah bends to Nero, ‘This means, simply put, like we believed from the ancient times, the only way in which a singularity, Demiurge, or as you guys believed, Nasionale God, singularity can be defeated on the flanks of Mound Zep, only if the actions of the Virus of the End can be dealt with down there on Planet of the Apes. Get your fat asses back to the killing fields of planet earth! Otherwise, I will promote you to Fully Dead right here on the spot to join our Army as we march

So they had to create a system where when the security guard was furthest away, he would tug on a thirty-foot piece of rope to signal to the man it was clear to come out of the tunnel. At one point, there was an air raid and the lights in the tunnel went out, the ‘Tunnel Kings’, Danny and Willie, the men who were in charge of creating the tunnel were traveling through. Danny was surprisingly claustrophobic and held up the tunnel momentarily during the best time to sneak out-during the dark. It was going smoothly until one man fell on his package he was taking with him. The guards heard him and the tunnel was shut down.…

Nero Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus was born December 15, 37 AD in Antium, Italy (Adkins 21). When Nero was young, his father Gnaeus passed away, so his mother Agrippina married Nero’s uncle, Emperor Claudius (E.B. 606). Overtime, she persuaded Claudius to marry his thirteen year old daughter Octavia to Nero and declare him the rightful heir to the throne instead of his own son Britannicus (E.B. 606). Claudius agreed to marry Nero and Octavia, but when he changed his mind about crowning him, Agrippina had Claudius poisoned (E.B. 606). With Claudius out of the way, Agrippina immediately had Nero declared emperor by the Praetorian Guard in 54 CE (E.B. 606). When Nero was crowned emperor, he took the name Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (E.B. 606).…

“The Emperor Nero possessed a character so insecure and self-obsessed that he was completely unsuited to govern the Roman Empire.” (Baker 187) Nero rose to power through the conniving tactics of his own mother. This festered inside him his entire career, and the paranoia it caused eventually drove him crazy. With roots in his distrust of his mother and no true appeal to the throne, Nero’s insecurity manifested itself in his lust for attention and disapproval of dissent; this ultimately caused his downfall and the bankrupting of Rome.…

Throughout the fast-paced lives of people, we are constantly making choices that shape who we are, as well as the world around us; however, one often debates the manner in which one should come to correct moral decisions, and achieve a virtuous existence. Dante has an uncanny ability to represent with such precision, the trials of the everyman's soul to achieve morality and find unity with God, while setting forth the beauty, humor, and horror of human life. Dante immediately links his own personal experience to that of all of humanity, as he proclaims, "Midway along the journey of our life / I woke to find myself in a dark wood, / for I had wandered off from the straight path" (I.1-3). The dark wood is the sinful life on earth, and the straight path is that of the virtuous life that leads to God. Dante's everyman, pilgrim…

“Here an artist dies.” While Nero summed up his life with these dramatic dying words, other historians such as Suetonius, official biographer for the emperor, summed up his life by saying “the race of the Caesars perished with Nero” (Tenney 305). Both are accurate descriptions of the life Nero led as emperor of Rome from AD 54-68. He was dedicated to the performing arts and physical fitness, but at the same time disaster reigned during and after Nero’s time as emperor. Hundreds of people were killed under Nero’s orders, including the Christians when they were persecuted following the Great Fire of Rome. Despite the good things that came out of Nero’s reign such as a quinquennial where Hellenism, hygiene, and public safety increased, Nero is…

When they had settled, he reminded them of the fortress they were about to storm, reiterating what he had lately learned about Staithes fortifications and defences. “I am confident that we will force a breach, wreck the mill, and kill Staithes. When we are done, we will melt into the darkness and be home well before dawn. Each of us will play his part in teaching Staithes a lesson that every master will keep in his mind. This will be our greatest battle, and one that will do away with the need to fight further battles. This will be the war to end all wars. We will gain a splendid victory over the forces that curse us. We did not want this fight, but they have ignored our pleas. They have derided us, and ridiculed our aims to achieve peaceful and just solutions. They have enacted laws that make us criminals and say we are fit only for hanging. This battle is forced on us and not of our choosing. God knows we would rather have peace. But here we stand and can do no other. Right is on our side and God knows our cause is just, so none can resist…
