My Mom's Typical Day
My Mom’s Typical Day If this typical day of my mom was made into novel, the novel would be very thick andthe story would be very long. So here, I’m going to tell a little story about my mom’s daily activities. First, her name is Trimuljati Salim and she was born in Jakarta. Every morning, my mom gets up at 5.30, when the alarm is ringing. Then she washes her face and drinks two glasses of water. After that, she goes to the kitchen to arrange a menu for a day such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For breakfast, she usually makes hamburgers, and fried rice. Sometimes she cooks chicken and mushrooms noodles. At about 6 o’clock she finishes cooking. She does it by herself. Then she wakes me up if i’m still sleeping in my bed. Half an hour later, she drives me to school and then she comes back home. Arriving at home, she eats breakfast together with my father. She has some breads, a glass of chocolate milk and a glass of carrot juice for her daily breakfast. Then, she turns on her laptop and also her blackberry to check if there are emails. If she has some work to do, she usually does it before she goes to work. It takes about an hour. After that, she gets ready to go to work. She takes a bath, and puts on her shirts and black trousers. Then, she puts on her flat shoes and gets her bag and her laptop bag to the car. Around 8 o’clock she goes to work. Our driver drives for her. She doesn’t want to drive for herself because she’s lazy of the traffic jam in this city, Jakarta. With a driver, she can relax in a car. The other reason is because she’s not too good at driving a car. It takes about half an hour to get to her office that located in Daan Mogot road. At 8 o’clock in the morning, her typical work day starts. Her office is PT. Bumi Merak Terminaldo, or we can call it BMT. The head office is on Daan Mogot Road. My mom usually works at this office and the operation office is at Merak Raya. The journey from our house to Merak takes about one and half hours. But

My mom leaned down and kissed my cheek, she told me to have a good day and reassured me we would get ice cream together after school. As my mom started to walk away my tantrum began. My classmates’ figures began to blur as tears spewed down my face and into my open, screaming mouth. The taste of salt from my tears only fueled the fire that began burning inside of me and intensified my…

    Mama Day

The entire structure of Mama Day is fitting to the telling of multiple love stories entertwined. Like the most heartfelt episode of Seinfeld ever Gloria Naylor doesn’t tell a love story, but rather lays out in detail the events of everyday life for all of the central characters. In the process the love stories of the characters are all told at once. The most obvious example is the relationship between George and Cocoa (arguably the main love story). Through the book we see them meet, fall in love, and go through excitement and hardship; all that love is. There is also the love story of Mama Day, Abigail, and Cocoa. Even though Abigail is Cocoa’s grandmother and Mama Day is her great-aunt, they both take on the role of mother through their mutual love for her. There is also the love story between Bernice, Ambush and Little Caesar. Despite their squabbles, they love each other. Love is one of the major themes in this book.…

Plot: Woman gets call at work from her father, telling her that her mother is dead. Father never got used to living alone and went into retirement home. Mother is described as very religious, Anglican, who had been saved at the age of 14. Father was also religious and had waited for the mother since he first met her. They did not have sex until marriage and the father was mildly dissapointed that the mother did not have money. Description of the house follows, very high ceilings, old mansion it seems, with chimney stains, it has been let go. Jumps in time to narrators ex-husband making fun of narrator fantasizing about stains. Next paragraph is the father in a retirement home, always referring to things: ‘The lord never intended.’, shows how old people have disdain for new things, the next generation appears to be more and more sacreligious. Shows streak of meanness when ‘spits’ out a reference to constant praying, narrator claims he does not know who he is talking to, but appears to be the very pious mother. Following paragraph jumps back in time to when narrator was a child, she asks her mother constant questions about her white hair and what color it was, mother says she was glad when it wasn’t brown like her fathers anymore, shows high distaste towards her father, the narrators grandfather. Mother claims hate is sin, that it spreads throughout your body like black ink in water. Next paragraph jumps to older narrator, discussing her name, Euphemia, how they called her Phemie at home, but when she started to work she called herself Fame (hated her real name), dialogue between her and a bar guest, which is where she worked, at a bar in a hotel. Shows the type of place and type of people she converses with on a regular basis. After that the next paragraph jumps back to 1947 when Euphemia was 12 (so she was born in 1935), she was helping her mother paper the downstairs bedroom because her mother sister Beryl was coming to visit. Her mother…

It was the beginning of June, a steamy summer day in Florida. School was in recess so I was able to sleep late that day. When I woke up I mentally sorted out my schedule. “Nothing much,” I thought, “just a normal day; work then home.” I got out of bed, ate breakfast, took a shower, and got ready for work at the local sandwich shop. I did not expect to receive an unforgettable call at work from my then girlfriend’s sister, Jahaira.…

She takes care of me like a king takes care of his people. I do not know what I would be without her.Once I got dressed and mom helped me put my shoes on. We walked downstairs and Lindsey and Shannon, my sisters, were getting ready for school. I walked downstairs to the first floor and saw my dad leaving. I ran to him to give him a good bye hug. Then I had breakfast. I am pretty sure that it was scrambled eggs with ketchup. My life is as hectic as an exterminator during an infestation. Or so I thought.…

    A Happy Day Turned Bad

It was a beautiful day. The sun cast it’s radiant rays upon a little small village in China. Little dust of ivory clouds navigated itself around the sky. On that day a naive girl of four years-old sat in her concise house of only one room., no bigger than a mini garage. An average size twin bed faced the wall, a bed that three people shared every night. A cheap old fashioned stove adjacent to the bed, and a cabinet where three utensils, three plates, and three pairs of clothes lay. I sat on the cold stone floor wearing my pink little summer dress while playing with my rusty train set. All days were the same for me. My parents both worked from when the sun rose to when the sun set, only coming home to make dinner. Life for me was quite lonely. I ran free through the village like a wild child, for no one cared. I became independent the day I could walk.…
