My Mentoring Experience
Exam weeks were always hectic, but I never expected that I would spend hours tutoring other students instead of preparing for myself. I founded a study group for accounting last semester, which was inspired by my tutoring experience. I took Introduction to Financial Accounting one year ago. After the midterm, our professor asked some top students, including me, to mentor those who were about to fail in this course. It is unproblematic for me to organize and absorb tons of knowledge. However, for Miguel, my mentee, this process seemed fairly challenging. He said that reading tediously long material was perplexing and then he easily gave up. Throughout life we all make perceptions and have outlooks on how things should be. The issue is that we make these without understanding and completely seeing the overall details about the subject. After reading the book “Authentic Spiritual Mentoring,” by Larry Kreider I have come to the conclusion that the subject of mentoring has the tendency to fall into that category. Discipleship programs are present in the church, but unfortunately I do not think that many churches look at spiritual mentoring quite in the same way as proposed in the book. I feel that the church now more than ever has a crucial need for spiritually mature men and women to mentor younger believers. In order for these younger…

In complete honesty, I have lived a privileged life. I am provided with diverse opportunities, ranging from being home-schooled to the Catholic school I currently attend. Everyone has their hardships, and I certainly had my own, all were shaping and forming me into who I am at this point. I can honestly say my particular perspective has been remarkably determined by Kent Bellows Mentorship Program. It forced me to realize the opportunities I have been granted, take my passions into consideration, and most importantly, it shaped my aspirations and made me work for them.…

When it comes to my career path I have always wanted to work with children but as I got older I developed a great passion for music. Music has always been around me, my dad was a big music buff. Since my father’s passing I feel like I have a special connection to him when I sing and listen to music. I’ve always been shy when it came to singing in front of an audience until I began going to Bethune-Cookman University. While I was enrolled there I joined a band and was singing in a local lounge every weekend and I loved it! Once I moved back home and enrolled in Georgia State I felt it was time to break out of my shell and truly begin to perform.…

    1. Why are you interested in serving as a peer mentor again? I am interested in serving as a peer mentor again next year because of the experiences and opportunities that I have had so far. Looking back on my experiences in Econ 110, I appreciated the guidance I received from the class and from my peer mentors. Andre, a socially mobile 2010 graduate of Wellborn University, has been enjoying a successful software sales career in New York City. When I arrived, I stepped out of my car for Andre to help me park (raised in Arizona, my parallel parking skills are null). He happily greeted me as he took my keys and moved my driver’s seat all the way back. Being well over 6’ tall, he towered over me. On our way to his apartment building he expressed his excitement for my association with Lori before directing me to stop in my tracks and look ahead. In front of me was an unobstructed view of The Statue of Liberty. He gleefully told me that the view from the apartment’s patio was one of the best in the city. I interviewed him in the lobby of his posh apartment…
