My Letter To Congressman Carter
Dear Congressman Carter:
My name is Logan Vollentine and I am writing to thank you for your support of The Second Amendment and the right for citizens to bear arms.
One of your pieces of legislation I am particularly happy for is the Secure Firearms Act. By making it easier and cheaper for people to obtain a safe and or lock for their firearm, more people will consider buying a firearm. I feel that many people today are scared to purchase a firearm because they cannot afford to secure the weapon properly.
I understand that with today’s society the battle for the right to bear arms is getting tougher and tougher. However, I feel that with more legislation like this it is a battle we can win.
Thank you again for your support and your time.
Sincerely,
Logan L. Vollentine

Various thoughts on gun regulation have been recommended to the press, local government, and people in power at the federal level. Most of which are quickly rejected as they are expected to fail or are unable to make it through Congress due to inside politics. An idea that has not yet been pushed through Congress is allowing all responsible citizens to carry firearms with the potential consequence of a minimum five year prison sentence along with fines if the weapon is not used by the carrier in a situation of self-defense. With those laws in place, criminals may consider alternatives before violating their next victim with a firearm. This will also help to cut down on straw-purchases of firearms.…

This article details history of mass shootings that used assault weapons in America. The author places a definition on assault weapons as “a semiautomatic weapon with a detachable ammunition magazine and some type of advanced feature typically used in military-grade weapons.” The previous and now expired ban on certain assault weapons is also discussed in detail. The article suggests that proponents believe assault weapons are “guns of choice for mass shootings.” Opposing views on restrictions are also expressed in regards to mental health care as a solution to preventing tragedies.…

Given the primarily Hispanic community here in El Paso, domestic violence is more prevalent and getting out of these abusive relationships is often more difficult because of the cultural values. I would like to urge you to consider the children that are caught in between. Currently there is only “In the best Interest of the child” clause, but even then, women of domestic violence are placed in a dangerous situation of sharing custody with their abuser. While I am not advocating for totally cutting a father out of the picture, I do believe preventive measures need to be put in place to ensure that these kids do not suffer more than they already have.…

There has been and still is a lot of controversy on the second amendment which is the right to bear arms. Everyone including the government has their own interpretation of what this amendment means. I personally do not think that there will ever be a complete understanding about what “the right to bear arms” actually means and what is and what is not considered the right or wrong way to go about protecting oneself or just having a sense of security. All people are different, have their own beliefs, and have different opinions on what this amendment can interpret too.…

Gun control advocates focus on the serious negative effects on gun availability on safety, while gun ownership advocates emphasize the lawful use of guns and their place in our history and culture. While our history and culture is important we need to address the current national problem in order to live in a safe enough society. In an effort to stabilize and decrease firearm related injuries and deaths in the U.S. a strong federal law to control guns is needed. In the bigger picture, we people will see the United States, as a Nation, as a better safer place to live in and not to die…

The right to bear arms is the the Second Amendment in the United States constitution. What says a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The right to bear arms has been around this country long then it's been a country. Putting more restrictions on guns just goes against what our founding fathers intend the nation to be like and infringes against the right to bear arms. The second amendment supports my claim which is anti-gun control laws and how putting restrictions on gun makes it…

Citizens have been bearing arms since the beginning of time, but in today’s time it is becoming more of a problem. Having the proper gun control would play a major part in decreasing the crime and murder rate in the US. The second amendment states, “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”…

Many people agree that we need stricter gun control laws here. Others say that criminals will still find a way to get a gun regardless of the laws. I’m in favor of stricter gun control laws for this state. Keeping my family and myself safe has never been more necessary until now. About one million Americans have died from gunshot wounds related to homicides, accidents, and suicides in the last three decades (www.cagv.org).…

In recent years there has been a substantial amount of gun violence, especially toward children and college campuses. One main issue I have with our government that impacts me as an individual and student is gun legislation laws. There have been too frequent amounts of mass shootings in the last two years in populated areas such as movie theatres, shopping malls, and education institutions, which should be addressed to those in power. People seem to get guns fairly easy whereas requirements to obtain a driver’s license or adopt a pet requires a much more difficult process. The recent shootings affect everyone not just within the community where the tragedy occurred but nationwide. Blow ups of killers, and mass murders…

Because of the establishment of concealed carry legislation by all states over the years, it has been increasingly possible for almost every American citizen to carry concealed weapons in public places. As unfortunate and horrifying gun violence tragedies like the Newtown School Shooting and Sandy Hook school shooting repeatedly occur, whether citizens should have the right to carry a conceal handgun in public has created a massive uproar. People have different views about this issue. Just as the Second Amendment states that every human being has the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, many gun-rights advocates believe that reasonable citizens have the right to…

Right here in Illinois there is a case about the right to bear arms. State law barred "anybody of men, other than the organized militia of the state and the troops of the United States, from associating as a military company and drilling with arms in any city or town of the state. They stated in the Presser V. Illinois “A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." I think that some people shouldn’t have the right to bear arms. Because if they are not in the right state of mind you could pop off on anybody. Why not try and stop the people from getting guns illegally. I would never actually think that some people would get the right to carry and then actually kill people without somebody threatening them. People that are actually getting this bear to carry right are felons and they were convicted for having a weapon and using it for bad reasons. As a country we can’t let this law be passed because just like somethings we pass they won’t have rules for the person but a…

Gun control has recently created a massive uproar throughout the United States because of the recent, and sincerely unfortunate, Sandy Hook school shooting that occurred last December. In response to this tragedy, Democratic leaders have been attempting to capitalize on the incident and push forward their respective agenda of limiting gun rights. As one can imagine, there are a surfeit of opinions on the subject, but despite this fact, I have come to affirm that I am strong believer in strengthening gun control. Although the right to bear arms should continue to be guaranteed by the Second Amendment, our nation’s need for heightened security in school classrooms and other public places is…

Purpose: With that, I’m going to inform you on the two controversial sides of gun control. Gun control is important because we can be affected due to our safety, but also the constitution states we have the right to bear arms and are able to arm ourselves for protection. This is important to our generation because crime is rising and we want to always be safe in our society. I’ve done plenty of research because it’s important to myself to feel safe in wherever I go, and I want to make sure people are safe at all costs.…

One of the most debatable topics in the United States is the availability of guns. The debate on the topic of gun laws focuses on those who believe that owning guns is a Constitutional right while others believe that owning guns is a leading cause of much of the violence within the United States. However, there is a balance between the two debates that will lead to a better conclusion to the topic. Making guns illegal will only lead to criminals possessing illegal firearms while the law abiding citizens will be faced with the threat of criminals with firearms while they have no source of protection. At the same time, the current laws do not require every state to follow laws that would allow for the government to ensure that the firearms do not legally fall into the hands of criminals or those not responsible to own firearms.…
