My Last Pumpkin Carving: A Short Story
It was a chilly fall night. I remember walking into the kitchen as I picked up the knife walking toward the pumpkin to cook the seeds inside. I put the knife against the pumpkin, and it started to glow a bright orange, it was that dang pumpkin. I pushed down on the knife to slice into it, but that was the worst mistake ever. I tried pushing harder to cut but then all of a sudden, the knife was getting harder to push away from me. That pumpkin was pushing the blade toward my stomach, soon I came to realize this was going to be my last pumpkin carving ever. I thought it was going to be “just a desert” it was something bigger, much scarier than that… The blade slashed through my skin like a hunter gutting a deer! I let out a loud cry and the glow

Tired, with a headache, and not in capacity to maintain my eyes open, I remembered next day was Halloween, which was the last thing I remembered before falling sleep. I woke up and saw the watch, it was three o’clock a.m. I listened to a weird sound that came from my closet; it was soft, but I could hear it like a rat scratching the walls. Intrigued about what was happening, I woke up and walked towards the closet. The sound gave me the chills.…

“When will the plan be ready Bavmorda?” Said Circe “ I’ve told you 7 times in the last 2 days! Our plan should be finished 2 days before All hallows eve in 2 years. These possessive pumpkins are going to let us have this realm under our thumb! We will finally have the realm the way we want it no more children dressing up as us for All hallows eve, no more people thinking of us as just mere make believe monsters! We are real! And we are going to show them that! And when we regain our powers we will take over! “ “ I can’t wait!” said Evanora I hope you don’t think these women ordinary they are not just anybody they are the daughters of the devil. I don’t remember much about how my family died, I was just a three year old boy; Keenan Waren. All I can remember is it was Thanksgiving day with my whole family. I know it was this day because the smell of the turkey was burnt into my memory, and it’s also what the people at the orphanage told me as I was growing up. Something else I can recall is seeing a tall, bulky shadow holding a green flame in his hand after the lights shut off. Everyone was screaming, but I am still unsure of what was happening to them. My mom carried me out into the rainy night in front of the house in my carseat, and I was crying for the teddy bear my aunt gave me for my first birthday. I kept crying, so my mom covered me with blanket and ran back inside to grab it…

As a child I was psyched up, I couldn’t wait to look at all the pumpkins and carve it as a dinosaur. I literally was obsessed with dinosaurs until the age of nine. We parked our 1997 Corolla and started to walk to all the bright orange pumpkins. Something was strange from the looks of this place. All the pumpkins had white little tags on them but they weren’t dollar signs like you would expect. They all had words on them, I was only six at the time so I couldn’t read that much. A few words I read out loud from one of the white little tags but struggled to read the whole sentence. My mom was confused too, why would all the pumpkins have stupid little quotes on them she murmured. We soon found out shortly that this was at our advantage and not a disappointment. A tall black man with dreads came out of the trailer by the pumpkin patch and walked up to us. He asked “What can I help you with folks?” My mother asked him about the pumpkins and the quotes on them. He laughed, since it’s three days before Halloween were having a little contest. I looked up at him and…

In the fall every year my aunt, uncle, their older kids (from Edmonton) and two cousins (who are at a school at BYU in Utah) all drove to my house for Thanksgiving. My brother, two sisters and i get very enthusiastic and we help every way that can, to give our parents a hand to clean up. We have 2.5 acres of land and a small forest in our yard (which we call the bush [because of its size]). The bush is where my brother and i use our imaginations to build fort and make our outdoor ‘‘man cave’’. Behind our bush is the trans-Canada trail (which we had to sell some our property for it), but it is a great place for lemonade stands for my family to have fun. After the trail is a dirt road that is our shortcut to Blackfalds…

The dead walked towards me as I tried to move back, in his hands were a pair of bloodstained pocket knife. A hard wall smashed against my head, for I accidently backed up on the wall. Black dots blocked my sight, with little consciousness that remained in myself. I rolled into a ball as the creature closed in, still screaming because I was going to die in any moment. I buried my head, trying to to sink in the snow as much as possible. As I was praying, a distant voice, kept calling my name. It was my friend Molly, who was also the owner of the store. She shook my shoulders violently, as I was blinded by the snow. I looked up again, nothing had happened. Looking across, the pile of snow remained unharmed. Snow flurried down again.…

Blood flowing out of my skull and hands. I can feel my whole head throbbing. The surges of pain continue over and over. I decide to pull strength from within to get up to check out the quad. I soon realize that the crack I heard was the snapping of the axle rod forcing the tire to be bent and rendering the quad un-drivable. Leaving the quad behind, I decided to walk back to camp. Of course I forgot my phone back at camp not planning that I would be taking a mouthful of dirt. As I walk I notice a white figure out of the corner of my eye. Since I was hurt and not sensible, my first thought was that this figure is a flesh seeking monster ready to gobble up my entire body whole. Given the fact that I actually believed that, I began to quicken my pace from a walk to a jog to a sprint. Just as I was ready to fall over and die of exhaustion, I notice an orange glow near me. This time it wasn’t a monster it was light coming from my camp’s fire. After my lengthy journey, I reached my dad and he rushed over to me baffled by my injury. With tears in my eyes, I sat down and began to regurgitate the whole experience. That night as I drift off into the abyss that was my dreams, I settled on the fact that the white figure was only the tail of a squirrel. I guess I deserved that fright given the fact that I did invade his…

I blankly looked up at the cold sky. The best part of this moment was that snow began to fall, which acted as an ice pack for my head-wound. Everything feeling as it was glazed over, I saw my brother get up, rage filling his face along with disputation. I cocked my head in an uncomfortable position to see him walk over to the smirking guard. Tears filling my eyes I witnessed as my brother punched the guard right in the nose. The he jumped on him and wrestled him on the slick and icy ground. The guard, twice his size and stature threw him off stood up and fired one loud shot. My brother crumpled up on the ground. I brought my hand up to my head in pure shock, longing for this to be my imagination, when I felt a warm smooth and sticky liquid coming out my head. I brought my hand down to in front of my eyes to see that the color of scarlet red on my hand matched the color of the blood on my big…

It was a pain unlike any other. I have never felt this before. A scream builds on my lips, a cruel laugh sounds from the darkness. I bit back the scream, determined not to give him the satisfaction instead my silent scream resonates in my head. The smell hit me before the pain did. I did scream then, oh how I screamed. I screamed until my voice grew hoarse and still I screamed. I cried out until I could no longer until darkness clouded my eyes and I knew no more.…
