My Education so far
My Education so far, at least as I remember it!
We all start our education early in age. For some it’s when their parents start reading to them at night, or whenever their parents get a chance to read to them at all. I was reading when I was two to three because my mom took the time to put me on “Hooked on Phonics” when I was one and a half years old. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t have my nose stuck inside of a book! If I wasn’t reading a book I was watching Sesame Street, or as I like to call it the early version of home preschool. There was something about counting with the Count and spelling cookie with the Cookie Monster that still brings back fond memories. My two daughters also enjoyed watching when they were toddlers, although as every child does they became “too old for Big Bird”.
When my mom had to go back to work though, it was off to Mrs. Patsy’s Daycare for at least a year until I was old enough for Kindergarten. It wasn’t completely just a Daycare; it was also my informal school setting because that is where I learned how to socialize with other children. It was where I learned how to share my toys with others, even when I didn’t want to. It was also where I learned not to say mean things to other children, and also how to respond when others said something to me that was not so nice. Apparently it was not a good choice when I walloped the boy on the playground JUST because he called me a “poopiehead”.
When I was finally old enough to get into the big kid school it was completely different than anything I had known before. We still had milk and cookies for snack, and still took naps on a regular schedule every day. This was a good thing because like my youngest daughter who is now in Kindergarten, I got very cranky later in the day if I did not get a nap in sometime! I still had all of those perks that followed me into Kindergarten, but now I was supposed to be accountable for my actions. I was also learning all of my ABC’s and learning how to spell and write my whole name. My Kindergarten teacher was the best; she was also my teacher in third and fifth grade, and quite possibly one of the main teachers that inspired me early on to become a teacher. Mrs. Brown was her name and teaching was her game, or at least that’s what she always told her classes. She was very patient and kind, although as I had her throughout the years, she definitely became more firm (but still fun) in her teachings. I still remember the treasure boxes in Kindergarten and Third grade. She was the one who taught me how to write in cursive, and how to draft and write my first essay. She was by far my favorite teacher going through Grade School, I was very sad when my mom moved us from that area when my parents got a divorce.
Most of my Middle School life was spent moving around a lot so it was pretty spotty as far as what I retrieved from it. I was also going through a very bad time trying to deal with parents’ divorce and my mom marrying another man that wasn’t my dad. I can admit it now, because I wouldn’t then, I was a horrible Preteen. I almost didn’t make it through Eighth or Ninth grade. I fell into the wrong crowd, started ditching school and doing stuff that I really shouldn’t have been, especially at that age. I did finally clean up my act in my sophomore year. I changed directions or venues I guess you could say. I dropped out of regular High School and began going to an alternative school that helped you prepare to get your GED at an early age. It was one of the best schooling experiences I had enjoyed since Fifth grade. I actually learned real world applications to problems that as a teenager I thought I needed to know then, and there wasn’t all of the usual High School drama.
After I achieved the goal of actually getting my GED, my education was put on hold a little while. I knew that I wanted to go to college but I just wasn’t ready yet. I worked many different jobs throughout the years where I gained lots of real world experience. I have been a pharmacy tech, painter, new construction cleaner, bartender, server, salon academy receptionist, bank teller and customer service representative, heck I have even been a Wal-Mart cashier. Through all of that somewhere I met the man that I love so I decided to marry him, and now we have two beautiful girls that are five and eight years old. After Hannah was born though I decided that it was time to go back to college finally. Just last year I finished my sixtieth credit hour, which is what you have to have to become a substitute in the state of Kansas. I am currently substituting in the Great Bend and Hays school district while I am taking this course online, along with a few others. I hoped that you have enjoyed the memoirs of my educational experiences.

I think Dr.Seuss said it best when he said “The more you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” My introduction to literature started as many other childrens’ did. My day would begin with an enthusiastic high pitched red muppet, otherwise known as Elmo, teaching me the ABC’s and end shortly after sunset with my mother reading me fairy tales about princesses and talking animals. By nightfall, the princess always ended up with her prince and I always ended up with a need for my mother to read me just one more book. Though I enjoyed being read to and being serenaded with a pitchy rendition of the alphabet, my journey through reading and writing was as rocky as Elmo’s vibrato.…

It’s a bler, trying to look back on when I was a preschooler, so first grade was a mess. First grade is a life changer. Going to Tri-Point in Piper City not even for a full year. Tri-Point is a small old school just like ROWVA. I remember changing schools because my parents got a divorce. We moved to Peoria and lived there with my mom's parents. I got transferred to a Catholic school. Every Wednesday the whole place went to church right across the street. It was the worst thing ever sitting in the old creepy church listening the Father talk about only “God” knows what. My teacher's name was Mrs. Heartstick, no I did not make the name up. She grossed me out. He hands very dry and cracked, they looked like an old man's hands who had worked his whole…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

At a very young age, I found my love for reading. I learned to read at age three, and I read to myself nightly ever since I went into preschool. My reading level progressed very quickly. I loved the feeling of being able to finish a challenging book on my own at that age. Going into preschool, I can remember being one of the only kids who could read, so clearly, I felt like I should show off my skills to the other preschoolers. I can remember my mother telling me for a few weeks before the first day how wonderful school was going to be and how I would meet loads of new friends. She also told me that the other kids are going to be scared just like I was. Turning five years old, and knowing that it was time for me to begin school already, was really very scary. The thought of waking up early and going to school and not being with my mom all morning made me feel sick to my stomach, but I just had to suck it up and go. The first day of kindergarten I was sad but also excited at the same time because I was going to meet new friends and I was going to get to play with them during recess. I remember walking into school with my new back pack; they were the ones that had to two little wheels on it so you wouldn't have to carry it.…

It was my first day. I took a deep breath and walked in the door with a fear of being embarrassed and frustrated. The smell of french toast and egg omelettes for breakfast. The most vivid, earliest moment I have of learning to write and read was when I was in kindergarten. I recall this because this was the year I met the person who I thought created a poems and rhyme book my mother use to read out loud to my baby sister and myself. I remember every night before bed, it was this blue book that my mother use to get off the bookshelf and read. This was the only way my sister and I would go to sleep. The first day of my kindergarten school, when I walked into the class room I saw that same book And a whole bunch more books. I was like ‘’WOW!!!’’ I must be in book heaven. I never saw so many books. I mean, they were all shapes, color and texture. At the time I didn’t know they were called Nursery Rhymes until I began learning more about it in my school house. There was a particular nursery rhyme that stood out to me then and it still does today because of a certain funny reason I will explain later on in my essay. As my mom and Mrs. Woolabee (whom was my kindergarten teacher) use to read to me, they allowed me to read after them and we also use to act out the stories. Their voices and what they did for some reason seemed to be the same. I don’t know if it was because I was a little girl and was just so amazed on how they both made their voices sound, how they both made me laugh or the fact they held me close as they read to me. I knew the difference from my mom verses the teacher. I guess when you are little and notice both of these females care for you, as a small child you feel a certain way. I recall during home time and school time I use to draw the pictures as they read to me. I remember writing small words like and, up, did, as I learned this rhyme. They use to read to me Jack and Jill. I still remember it. ‘’Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came tumbling after. Up got Jack, and home did trot as fast as he could caper. He went to bed and…
