The reason as to why Korea was her inspiration for her poem is that, ever since end of World War Two, Korea has been divided into two separate countries, the two countries being North and South Korea of course. The poem, Monologue for an Onion, represents Korea in that both the onion and the person are split, yet somehow they are still connected to one another. What this means is that the onion is split because of its layers being peeled away from it, yet still remaining somewhat connected to its layers of flesh that lay upon the counter and the person that now carries its feelings, thoughts, and smells. The person, despite being split at their core or their heart, is connected to it because of the onion revealing what the person did not know of themselves. These two represent Korea in that the North and South countries would continue to always be connected to one another, despite the Soviet Union and the United States of America taking control of the two, respectively. The people of the two, some of the ideologies of the two, and the wars of the two would always keep the two connected no matter who or what attempted to split them apart, even if the who or the what were two powerful countries like the Soviet Union and the United States of America. Kim wanted to show that the onion and the person represented her home and its…

Korea lies in the eastern part of Asia. This peninsula is divided into two countries: North Korea and South Korea. Although there is a division of landscape, government, and culture, the bulk of people in Korea consider themselves a part of the Korean nation. Regardless of that, the countries do have their differences. The entire peninsula is cut off from Northeast China by rugged mountains and sizable rivers (Rowntree 365). The north suffers from heavy deforestation, however it has more natural resources. The south has made extensive reforestation efforts post WWII and so they have more greenery. In terms of culture, there are more intense differences. In the South, k-pop and Korean drams have gone global. The culture has appealed to people worldwide. Meanwhile, North Korea remains somewhat in isolation. What’s more, North Koreans attempt to flee into Northeast China, quite often. Yet no one flees South Korea. This shows that there are different cultures and levels of comfort in each…

Though in recent years Koreatown’s Korean population has declined to about 30% of the total population, it is still considered the prime place to enjoy a good dim sum or kimchi. There is a little more than a thousand Korean owned businesses in K-Town and a very good majority of those are eateries. Being known for its nightlife, most of K-Town’s eateries are bars and norebangs (karaoki rooms). “A night out in what insiders call K-Town might begin with dinner or warm-up drinks and nibbling at a stylish cafe with giant video screens, then proceed to dancing at an exclusive nightclub or singing at a karaoke ' 'music studio ' ' until dawn” (Navarro). Singing in norebangs is a widely appreciated pass-time in the Korean community and is usually accompanied with alcohol and appetizers. This pass-time is never done alone and it is usually done in large groups for any occasion. The alcohol of choice being makgeolli, a fermented rice wine, is usually associated with the cooking and munching of small strips of sweet and crispy pork belly. Small groups of people can be seen around a table drinking, cooking the snack and conversing.…

These days many people know kimchi is one of the healthist food in the world. We could find kimchi most of supermarkets around the world. Although people know it, still many people do not know how to serve kimchi well. So, I would like to introduce the best way to serve kimchi as Koreans do. Firstly, the typical way to serve kimchi is with steamed rice, rameyon and BBQ meats. Kimchi is the essential side dish when Korean have meal. It is even compared sambal to Malaysians. Also serve with cool kimchi. That's why Koreans always keep kimchi in refrigerator. Now, whenever you eat something as meal, you may serve Kimchi. They will match perfectly. Secondly, kimchi fried rice(Bokkeumbap) is another common food when Koreans serve kimchi. Specially it is a great way to cook this when you have leftover rice and ripe kimchi. Just add finely chopped Kimchi to the usual your fried rice ingredients. I recommend kimchibokkeumbap to those who never tried to eat kimchi because of kimchi smell. Thirdly, we could serve kimchi stew(Kimchijjigae) is also one of common stew which Koreans like. We use more fermented and ripe Kimchi when we cook this. Sliced kimchi and other ingredients on personal preferences like sausage, tofu and sliced spring onions put into a pot and all boil with water. It accompanied by several side dishes with streamed rice and served boiling hot in a stone pot. Once you try this, you will never forget this flavor. The last one, we could serve kimchi pancake(Kimchijeon). The main ingredients are ripe Kimchi and flour. The way of cooking is almost same when you cook egg omelette. It is usually served as an appetizer, snack or side dish. Kimchijeon is a folk dish that anyone could make easily at home in Korea without extra budget. I suggest to serve kimchijeon when your mood is not good. Your mood will change soon after eating this. I introduced the best way to serve kimchi. Kimchi itself, kimchi…

North Korea's hatching started in the late nineteenth century. At this time the peninsula was just one Korea; its monarchs created the "Hermit Kingdom" by closing its doors to foreign push-and-pull. However, Japanese influence on Korea was very strong as was China's presence and sheer size and power on the country. Russian's also planned to gain from the peninsula economically. These giants held fierce competition against each other which sparked several wars. In 1894 and 1895 there was the Sino-Japanese War, and later, from 1904 to 1905 was the Russo-Japanese War. After Japans victories against Russia and the Chinese, Korea became part of the Japanese Empire when it was annexed in 1910. (USC-UCLA; North Korea Profile, 2006)…

Koreans are the people who have long history. People say that ancient Korean originated from Mongolia, as the time went on, people from a little villages started to movie down. As they grew bigger they formed a little city and made a leader. From than on they started to expand faster and faster taking territories from different areas. When they reached the bottom of Korea they realized that they are surrounded by water and only way to go was up. That was when they started to grow their power. For a while, they were one united country, until the government became corrupted and split in to three different nations. After many years of battle, one king reunites the whole kingdom but than again they split in to three nations. Then again this nation comes back together. Their main food sources came from hunting and growing crops. They also ate lots of vegetables and chickens. They had their medicine from their own uses of special crops, plants, different kind of animal's parts and insects. Korean architecture was very beautiful. When they were building a kings kingdom or a temple they used no steels but just wood, and they still made it weatherproof and waterproof. Rich people with some stats in the country had a nice building that is only built out of wood too, but for people who don't have money or states, they used different materials. They build the side of the wall with a segment and some wood, floor mad up of segment, but the roof is made up of hay and mud. It was still weatherproof and waterproof but they had to make a new roof every year.…
