My Childhood Experience Essay

I am the youngest child of my family. In addition to that, my older sibling is an inherently dominant boy. Therefore, I have spontaneously felt inferior to him. My strong sense of leadership was not established until I left my home country. A thirty-hour exhausting flight physically transported me from Vietnam to a foreign land - America, as well as figuratively transformed a childish girl to a young leader at the age of fifteen. I moved in with my uncle’s family in Texas. From a careless, youngest girl, I dramatically became the responsible, eldest child in this new family. I was not aware of this impactful change until my uncle asked me to take care of my cousins when he went to work. They were two young, active boys: Jake was six years old, and his older brother - Jet, was eight at that time. Initially, it seemed to be a simple task: I just had to feed them, helped them with their homework, ensured that they took shower, went to bed early, and did not play too much computer games. However, it became my chronic concern for I could not speak English fluently. The undisciplined boys did not listen to me. They even made fun of my imperfect Asian accent.

I learned to comport myself with dignity. Having associated with the children boosted my communication skills and patience, for I had to deal with different personalities. This will be useful as a pharmacist needs to interact with a variety of people: from customers, doctors, to insurers. Leadership experience will also be necessary when I collaborate with other pharmacy techs who assist in preparing prescriptions based on a pharmacist’s guidance.
