My Carbohydrate-Personal Narrative
Day two as a diabetic has come to an end. I thought yesterday was hard, but today was even harder. Waking up was rough because I knew I was not going to get my coffee and finger prick was in my future. I tried to look at the bright side. I had the day off and it was beautiful sunny day. That seemed to help although bright and sunny disappeared when it was time to prick my finger that day. Even with my high pain tolerance it was beginning to hurt. I know I could switch fingers but I did not want to have five sore fingers. Instead, I stuck with poking the same finger each time. My blood sugar was elevated again which meant I had to draw up some more “insulin” and “inject” myself again. Even with rotating side on the abdomen, the feeling of something …show more content…
After calculating, this meal came to 225 grams of carbohydrates. It was enough to keep my blood sugars regulated without feeling overly stuffed. For lunch, if I am being completely honest, I did not take my blood sugars. I figured since I was feeling fine and well, I was hungry that I would be okay skipping one reading and/or dose of insulin. I prepared myself another 75 gram carbohydrate meal that included one turkey sandwich with mustard, one cup of my leftover chili with beans, six saltine crackers, a few raw pieces of broccoli, and a diet Pepsi. For once in my diabetic experience, I actually felt like I was eating normal food that I liked. The only issue I had with this meal was the diet Pepsi. As mentioned earlier, I live for coffee and carbonated beverages. Pepsi is favorite drink and if it were not so unhealthy, I would drink it more than I currently do. In becoming diabetic, I had to give up the real stuff and switch to diet, which in my opinion, does not taste as good. Artificial sweeteners are not taste the same as real sugar. I concluded that drinking Pepsi diet was nearly the same as giving it up

    I have selected these food choices from Wendy’s menu as I feel the healthiest for a sound meal. The meal contains a total of 660 calories, total fat 21.5 grams, cholst 45, sodium 385 mg, carbs 70g, fiber 5g, sugar 51g, and protein 15g. The information above how the count of nutritional values shows to be enough calories per meal based on 2000 calorie diet. Total count may be a little high but not too much to consume but making sure this limit is low considering the link between fat and heart disease. Cholesterol number is ok but the sodium count is high this could be a concern down the road for high sodium count could lead to high blood pressure and unstable cholesterol levels. Carbs being at 70 grams is not to much and 5 grams of fiber is the amount. 51 grams of sugar is to high but considering other choices this is lowest possible and with the high count of sugar links to depression and obesity have been cited.     Last year I was prit near 375 lbs and I knew something had to give. I have tried, low fat, low cal, counting macros and everything. I always still would gain! I would eat veggies and lean meat keeping under 1200 calories sometimes 800 when frustrated, I'd still wake up weighing more. Well to be honest, I believe the food pyramid is very, very inaccurate.
